It just has a lot of crap installed on it that doesn't need to be on there. I want a clean, fresh install since I just installed a new CPU and brand of motherboard to get it running smooth and fast as I can get it.

I don't have an SSD yet but that is the plan to clone the fresh install to one if I get one soon.

I feel you. I love formatting and installing on a wiped drive.

I'm reaching the point when I'll need a clean format too. And take that opportunity to finally drop Vista and get 7.

Vista!? :lol Damn. Not feeling 8? I have a key and I'm ready to go but I'm just to lazy to install. I'm so settled in with 7.

Hey I was still using xp till a few months ago :lol I really never wanted to get rid of it, but times have changed. XP was fantastic unlike vista.

You guys have any headset suggestions?

I've never owned any and don't have a sound card.
Wondering if I should go wireless or not... I don't really move away from my PC though, so it's not really needed.

I've been using this ancient Dell speaker setup for maybe 6 or 7 years.
I might upgrade that as well soon.

I like Astros. Good, sturdy build and performance. Turtle Beaches have good sound, but they feel real cheap to me. Flimsy construction.

I'll look into Turtle Beach, I always assumed they weren't that good, lol.

Astro's seem great but the price is insane, are they really worth it compared to say Steelseries, Razar, Plantronics?

My budget is around $100, maybe a bit more.

I just want something that will last me awhile... my original idea was to buy the Corsair Vengeance 2000 but a common complaint is they break really easily.
So I may go for the wired version but thought I'd look at similar wired headsets as well.

At that price point, you'll be ok with TBs. Just be VERY careful with them hehe.

At that price point go with the Steelseries Siberia V2s [ame]https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Size-Gaming-Headset/dp/B005I8INDA/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1365970918&sr=1-3&keywords=steelseries+siberia+v2[/ame] Easily the best headset for the price. I own Astro A40s as well as these. I use these on my PC and the astros on my consoles.

Would you recommend a sound card or should I go for the included USB one for the Siberia V2?

Honestly I would just go for the USB one that is what I have. Unless you plan to drop a lot of money on a good soundcard imo the cheaper soundcards really don't make a difference. That is all imo. Some may say otherwise.

I have been using Logitech G930s for a while now, I love em!

These things are useful. This is what I'd recommend. I have a pair. Owned them with no problems.

I have those as well and like them a lot other than the fact the cups tend to make a little creaky noise when you move.

Hmm, I have not noticed this on mine yet, I probably will now. :)

Hell ya they run like a champ, they produce a great sound and the mic is nice.

I'd throw another vote for the Steelseries Syberia v2. I have them and really enjoy them. Light and comfy, retractable mic, 'cheap'...
and they come in 'not-USB' version which I prefer because I plug them straight into my Logitech G51 volume control console.
I actually wish the Diablo edition they made wasn't USB because I would have jumped all over that.

Well here's the thing. Vista was the first OS I actually bought. I bought it because I was building a new rig and figured I'd step up and get en OEM version.
A few months later they announced 7  and I'm still with the same rig so I didn't really feel like updating.
so now that it's around time to upgrade I'm going to take the opportunity to format and install 7.

Also. Screw 8.

:lol:lol:lol

I hear all this stuff about it; it would have been good to have at least bought a key when it was $40 or so from Microsoft; just in case when you have to, you're good to go cause you got one.

But yeah, screw 8.

I haven't had to deal with this in forever, so I forget the trick...

I've got a game that doesn't want to run in Win 7. I know it worked on XP, so that was the last OS I got it to work on - before that it was 98, 3.1, and one other OS (I don't even remember what I had, anymore).

I tried running setup in compatibility mode, but had no luck. Short of dual booting to win98/xp/whatever, is there anything else to try?

It's this game, should that matter:
