Some real nice photos. What type of camera do some of you use to take these fantastic photos? I'm taking the family to Yosemite next week and I want to take some great photos.

I'm looking at buying a flash, how is this one? Don't really want to spend more than this:

Canon 430EX II

[ame]https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Speedlite-II-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001CCAISE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1352506633&sr=8-6&keywords=canon+rebel+xti+flash[/ame]

^ any opinions?

Depends how much you intend to use it and what for. I got a stores own branded flash last year for less then half the price of a Canon flash. I'll only upgrade to a better flash when/if I ever went professional and will get the full use from an expensive flash.

Not professional here just want a good one but don't care if it is name brand. Just taking pictures of my son mostly and I'm sick of the stock flash.

Don't worry about the brand then. Aslong as you can bounce a flash you are already miles better then having to use the stock camera flash.

Wow, that's a great photo.

That's cool.:hi5:

Awesome photo! Make sure you keep that one...he's going to love it when he's older. :)

Thank you kindly gents! :1-1:

What goose said. That one will do more than enough. If you can get an off brand that will allow you to bounce, you're laughing. Bugs the **** out of me when I see people with much better cameras than mine, but using the on board flash. :slap

I had some time between shoots today and came upon this scraggly little berry bush. Couldn't help myself. I'm not one for the nature shots (I feel like I have to try to hard, and then it looks like I tried..) but I though this turned out fairly well. :)

Hope it's not too late to comment on this, bit if you wanna save a big hunk of dough, get the Yongnuo YN-560. I have it and love it (and I plan to buy a second one with some color gels).

$45.99 at Amazon: [ame]https://www.amazon.com/Yongnuo-YN-560-Speedlight-Flash-Canon/dp/B004GZLFHM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1353197241&sr=1-1&keywords=Yongnuo+YN-560[/ame]

It works great, and I use it all the time. It's come to define my collection photography. My only problem with it is that it takes longer to charge between shots than the name brand ones do, but as long as you don't mind waiting a few seconds between shots, so what!

The price is mind-boggleing. Get one. :lecture

[Edit] The Yongnuo flash does not work with TTL (through the lens) control, meaning you can't control it with the camera itself. So you can only change settings (intensity, zoom) directly on the unit. This doesn't bother me though, as I don't understand on-camera flash settings anyway. The manual settings are super easy.

[Edit 2] Also (full disclosure), the Yongnuo YN-560 is not fast enough to use shutter speeds over 1/250, but unless you plan to do some crazy action shots in a dark place, it's a non-issue.

...seriously, at the price all amateur photographers should get one. Bounce-flash FTW. :winner

Also, the Yongnuo wireless triggers are cheap and awesome. :D
