Penelope Cruz has been cast opposite Johnny Depp as the female lead in Pirates 4. I actually like the idea.

Scheduled for a release on May 20, 2011, the fourth installment revolves around the Fountain of Youth. Depp is reprising the role of Captain Jack Sparrow and Cruz's character is expected to be "Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways."

I think its brillant casting. She already has the spanish accent naturally which saves us from really bad female lead speech acting.

I could definitely see her as a swashbuckling wench. Jack Sparrow needs a woman who he can spar with as an equal--Elizabeth Swann was beneath him.

I'm always split on this. I can never definitively say whether or not I find Penelope Cruz attractive or not. Sometimes I see her in films or on TV and think she is a beautiful woman, I'd like to slam that so hard that people nearby will think that I'm opening and slamming doors over and over again in my house with the force her head to bounce off of the headboard....and other times I think she kind of looks like a horse with an annoying voice....I'm split.

I'd pretty much agree with that At least she's got potential. Now that I realize it was Zoe Saldana that played the female in the first POTC, I wish we got more of that character, she could have been a good match too and I like Zoe's acting.

it will be the worst one,and the people leaving the theaters l think will be disapointed,depp is only doing for the money he was pressured to dong it,wich means his hart wont be in it the acting will suck,depp will go in and finished as fast as possible,so it will suck,even tho l liked the others.

Slightly off topic, but I'm reading Crichton's last novel Pirate Latitudes and its pretty good. I think fans of POTC will enjoy it, I wonder if Crichton was a fan because I see alot of parallels. Obviously this is much more adult and doesn't have the same humour, but its entertaining.
