It would be a bit strange to tattoo another man's name with a bird on your arm.

He probably just did it to impress Angelina Jolie.

He should also burn a p onto his arm.

Actually Jack is his son's name. Though I'm not sure if he had Jack before he played Jack Sparrow

I think Kiefer Sutherland did the same thing for some of his Jack Bauer-story-related tattoos. Some of it is probably devotion to the character ... some of it is probably avoiding all the makeup time to have the damn thing drawn on every day before shooting.

I feel like to a great extent Johnny Depp created Jack Sparrow instead of just playing Jack Sparrow. If I had that situation I may just do something similar.

In that second pic he looks a bit like a baby passing gas. The sculpt looks much better with him looking out of the corner of his eyes.
