I actually don't like the closeup of the mermaids, the faces are too photoshopped looking.

Sure it can, you just don't ever see a closeup of the captain, it wouldn't have much of time on screen to dodge that, but it could appear.

I think it won't simply because it's not necessary. The characters in this film have no ties to it anymore.
