Picked up this little Blackbeard. I thought he had a rather striking resemblance to Ian given that he's only 4". Not bad articulation either, also a removable hat, pistol, and scabbard for the sword. And when you shine that blacklight from the ship in a bottle on him, you can see the zombie face paint etc underneath. Too bad the rest of the figures in the line look atrocious.

Yeah your right :lol Those figures ARE horrific to say the least! The one you have is probably the best of them and thats not exactly saying alot. No offense.

Thanks for the heads up on these, I just managed to score the entire line MOC, regulars and deluxe on ebay for $20. I love these sort of stylized figures and for the price it was too good to pass up. 2 Jacks, 2 Turners, Sao Feng, Davy Jones, Barbossa, and Elizabeth.

No problem!

I picked up Jack and Davy when they went on sale. They're pretty nice. DECENT...not good...but DECENT articulation.

Yea the articulation doesn't bother me, I will just be displaying these guys. Much cheaper alternatives then the statue though, and I dig the character selection especially all in the same scale. The only other figure they did that it didn't come with is Maccus, that hammer head guy, apparently he only came in some box set. I'll probably end up tracking that down now too.

That was one of the most brutal reviews I ever read! I don tknow. I loved the first film and was a little bored with the next two. I was hoping this new one would be a turn around. Ill check it out on DVD.

So, you're going to skip the film in the theater simply because of what this guy says?

I'm seeing it for free thanks to Priest. Got a re-admission ticket because it sucked so much.

So free LIEMAX Pirates!

And I would pay 18 bucks to see this. No matter the reviews.

That review isn't just some random movie critic. It's Drew McWeeny, aka "Moriarty" late of Aint It Cool. He's a huge movie nerd, a fanboy, one of "us"... If he had such a strong reaction to the film it indeed bodes ill for some of us, as we have similar film tastes and sensibilities.

The 2nd and 3rd films were so god awful, imho. They belong in the same space as the Matrix sequels, the SW prequels, and Spider-Man 3 as jaw-dropping franchise quality derailments. I had hoped this one would be a return to the tone and style of CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, but so far all the trailers (and reviews) lead me to fear otherwise. We shall see.

But it sounds like he liked 2 and 3 while you say they were jaw-dropping franchise quality derailments. So if he was wrong about 2 & 3 in your mind why can't he be wrong about 4?

I for one loved the 2nd and 3rd movies, and felt that they definitely brought something different to make it a solid, entertaining franchise.

It actually looks as if this one has a tone of its own though. The brightness taken from the sequels, and yet nothing interesting enough to make me watch it.
With the previous sequels, the Dutchman bits were freaky and had a weird, dark tone to it, the amazing CG effects helping that fact greatly.
Even the first movie, with its okay costumes and low budget, had the decency of realizing what proper lighting and mood could do to a scene or character. That's why I liked Barbossa. He wasn't the most interesting LOOKING character, but he was the most interesting CHARACTER. Save for Depp, of course.

This movie looks almost like a low budget cash-in with crappy costumes and such. Which sucks.

All the characters don't look the least interesting (no offense Blackbeard fans) and the zombie thing is just rediculous. Blackbeard seems to not scare me one bit. From what I can tell, even Jack's performance is nothing like the previous 3.

Of course he can be wrong. But he didn't exactly like the 2nd two films. He just didn't hate them as much as I did. :lol

Another problem I have from what I have seen about this one (so far) is that there seems to be little sense of scope and scale. Almost all of the shots I've seen look like they're on a sound stage or a small location. One thing Verbinski certainly excelled at was that sense of scale.

I am in agreement about Blackbeard. Doesn't seem scary at all. Almost like a grandfather going "Oh? You think so eh? Well, you're in trouble now..."

Not really giving me any kind of reason to fear him. I hope I eat my words.
