(I'm joking btw, I took you off after I took the pic, I only ignore religious fanatics)

One thing I really thought that would have made BLackbeard waaaay more intimidating.

When the crew decides to mutiny and when blackbeard uses his powers to grab them all up with the ropes, they should have been hung instead of just tying them up.

Yea but he needed them to capture the mermaids still, and was in too much a hurry to go back for a new crew. Thats why he made an example of the cook, (I was wondering why they included the cook with the lego Queen Anne) and roasted him. Wise decision given how many men the mermaids took down. And he was still shooting anyone who tryed to run from them.

Yeah your probably right but it would have made a cool scene to just do it to one of the crew members.

So, I just got back from seeing this film. Here are my thoughts about it.

First of all I have to say that, while I think it was a good and fun film, it could've been more.
I think they spent too much time on some (uninteresting and dragging) action scenes, especially in the beginning.
The whole chase through London and especially the fight between Jack and Angelica seemed a bit long, or perhaps it followed eachother too closely.
I'd rather had seen them spending that time on some character development. Especially on the character of Blackbeard. He was awesome and Ian McShane did a great job, but he could've been so much more. I get that they tried to show him as this great, mysterious, scary pirate, but a bit more explanation wouldn't hurt IMO.
Another thing that I think was a missed opportunity is that a lot of cool stuff that happened between At World's End and On Stranger Tides is only mentioned. It's nice that we get some backstory, but it would've been nicer if we'd see it as a flashback or something.
Lastly, I found it a bit of a shame that the Black Pearl wasn't really in this film... I mean, this is THE ship of the Pirates series, so I'd hoped it would make a 'bigger' appearance.

Now it might sound that I'm only negative about this film, but that's not true. It certainly had some good parts!
First of all, Johnny Depp as Jack of course. The film takes a bit of a different direction where Jack can't do as he pleases, but that doesn't really matter for Jack. He still manages to be the awesome character like we know him.
Geoffrey Rush is awesome as Barbossa again, and I was glad to see that he didn't go full Royal Navy Goody Two Shoes.
Like I said above, Ian McShane was great as Blackbeard, only his character was a bit undeveloped. Same goes for Angelica, Penelope Cruz's character. While she definitely has the appearence of a pirate, she wasn't really special or anything IMO.
One of the coolest thing in the entire film was the Mermaid sequence. These beautiful creatures kicked ass and made for a great action sequence worthy of the Pirates series!
And did I mention that the mermaids were beautiful?

So, the final verdict?

All in all I had a great time at the movies. It definitely was a fun summer blockbuster. However, I couldn't lose the feeling that it could've been more than this.
I rate it a 7.5/10

Someone told me Zimmer was tired of doing Pirates music, hence why the score is boring, forgettable, and phoned in.

Only good stuff was the Rodrigo y Gabriella's songs. That's it.

Hold the phone! I didn't know they were in there!

I agree the score was uninspired except for rodrigo y gabrielas guitar playing. That made it it's own.

This thread is much like a discussion my mom and I were having before we saw Thor. Why people like movies for different reasons or why they dont like them. The Entity said a lot of the same things in why I think this film is average. I'm happy for anyone that walked out going this is awesome. I wish I could have felt the same as I really dig this series but this film left me wanting in too many areas to be more than average.

Right now I'd rank the films I wanted to see in 2011 like this: I still have several more to go so this will change.

1. Thor
2. Sucker Punch
3. POTC 4
4. Battle LA
5. Green Hornet

I don't think the score was bad, I think it all fit pretty well for the film, but some of the lows were because of the scenes. Compared to the scores of the other 3 Pirates movies it lacked, but again, this film was unlike those. It lacked those big, grand cues like the other films, but there weren't any big, grand moments in this one like those either.

This movie really disappointed me. The story was very linear and the characters were all entirely uninspired. I wanted so much to love this movie, as I was a huge fan of the last two (which puts me in the minority, I know), but it really let me down. There was nothing really "strange" about "On Stranger Tides", a more appropriate title might have been "The Jack Sparrow Stunt Show".

I enjoyed the beginning quite a bit, but it went way downhill after the first 20-ish minutes.
Blackbeard was basically a joke after the mutiny with no consequences. Sure, the business with the ropes and the sales was really cool, and one guy was blasted with the Queen Anne's Revenge's bad-ass flamethrower, but I would expect more punishment from somebody of Blackbeard's reputation.

Again, I know I'm in the minority, but I felt emotionally invested in Will and Elizabeth's characters from the previous movies. This movie dropped in some preacher dude and a mermaid late in the movie and played it like I was supposed to care about what they were doing, but I really couldn't give a ____. The only characters worth a damn in this movie were Jack, Barbossa, and Gibbs. Everyone else was very generic.

Regarding the score, I did like the music, but it seemed out of place. For example, there was some "epic battle" type music playing while Jack was screwing around with the coconut (or were they palm?) trees. It was basically a comedy scene, but the music presented it as something greater than that. Just seemed really weird.

Saw this in 2D today and really liked it. Was it as good as the first one? Far from it, but I enjoyed it.

Anyone stay for after the credits?

These after the credits scenes are becoming a bit too commonplace :lol I plan to see this next weekend but my expectations are really low after reading throughout this thread which is probably a good thing.

Well...
it's funny how negativity spreads like wild-fire...

Yep. I wholeheartedly think that the "mixed" reviews are largely a bandwagon thing.

I don't care that you like it at all. I just find it amusing given your reaction to other genre films that aren't any worse than the PIRATES sequels.

And "loser"? Glad to see this has devolved into name-calling so quickly. :lol

Problem is, that's an opinion.

I don't mean to but in, but KOTKS is a whole 'nother level of crap.

If nothing else, On Stranger Tides at least felt like it was from the same series.
