Overlong, and bloated w CGI..............Peter Jackson has finally gone full George Lucas on us. Never bothered w part 3 of what should have been a two part movie at most. The book is what? 210 pages or some such!

characters. I actually watch The Hobbit now if I want my Middle Earth hit! LOTR Trilogy can become too serious for my viewing pallet sometimes!!

Took my kids to see this on Monday. It was okay. #2 in the series for me. Some of the jokes seemed forced. Overall, pretty good.

Even better, the theatre had problems with the projector and it started 15 minutes late. We got free vouchers for another movie because of the delay and then is started without trailers. Pretty much, the movie started when it would have anyways after the trailers.

Are we still arguing about this? :lol

It's over, done and this is the wrong thread. Don't get me started back on it now! :lol

Saw this yesterday. A really fun popcorn flick that had me in stitches throughout.

If they don't make anymore with the current cast then that's ok by me as their was a sense of closure for most of the franchises established plot arcs by the end of this film. I would definitely see number six if they chose to make one.

Was Will Turner turing into something like Davy Jones? He had all these barnicles on him, so I now wonder if he was actually doing his assigned task or not.

That's the big thing that had me confused since Will first appeared in the trailers. Based on what we know from the previous films, the crew of the Flying Dutchman are only cursed/have barnacles and sea flora growing on them when the captain doesn't do his job - so between the post credits scene of At World's End and the opening scene of this film, I guess Will Turner didn't do his job. :dunno

I think the writers simply threw out continuity for the sake of making this particular film work how they want. The tale behind the compass changed to suit the story, Will's appearance seems like it was done to make him seem more cursed as Henry's trying to set him free and make it stand out more once Will was freed from the Dutchman.

I was also thinking yesterday, how I felt like there wasn't enough of Jack showing off his full character traits, and I know there were some who felt that too much Jack is what made Strange Tides not go over as well as the original 3, this movie feels like they walked in saying, we need something connected to Will and Elizabeth Turner because everyone loved the movies with them, and we need to dial back on Jack Sparrow because there's such thing as too much. For me, that's the wrong thought process, there wasn't too much Jack in Stranger Tides, in fact, if there wasn't as much as there was, it would have felt worse. The problem is everything without him involved just didn't measure up, and even some of the scenarios he was put in weren't as interesting and exciting as the prior films or now Pirates 5.

I'd put this one second behind CotBP. 7.5/10. It ties up storylines for all four main characters from the first movie so a nice place to stop. I really liked Bardem's performance and the cursed designs were right up there with the first two movies. Rush was great and Depp easily stepped back in his regular Sparrow shtick, although it was nice getting a little more backstory. The new characters were good and the plot was not nearly as muddled as the three previous entries. But yep, time to sail the Pearl off into the sunset.

There's also little to no sword fights or ship chases.

Are you talking about 4 or 5?

Because they clearly made up for that in 5. I do believe there was some swordplay during the execution escape and more at the very end climax.

And there were a couple ship chases as well as battles (like Salazar's "doom").

All in all, I thought it was ok. I'll have to pick up the inevitable Blu-ray boxset.
Jack was way more drunk than I remember, and a few of the gags made me roll my eyes. The new characters were great, though the villians felt like a rehash to me.

I enjoyed it much more than the 4th entry.

Johnny spent his birthday visiting kids in a Tahiti hospital as Captain Jack.

It's a weird mix, looks like DMC/AWE vest, DMC/AWE/OST belts, DMTNT hair, OST bandana with trinkets on the proper side.

Bottom line, he definitely enjoys playing up the character and hopefully it means we haven't seen the last of him.
