Agreed, I've been fortunate enough to have some of my most treasured franchises get them. Rambo 4 was a perfect send off and at this point, it looks like no more with Stallone and if anything it would be a reboot later without him, which is fine, the Stallone Rambo series, which is what I watch and enjoy, has a solid start and end, great. Rocky, between Rocky Balboa and Creed has a great send off for the character, whichever you want to choose as a send off for him, either is satisfying for me, so I'm good there, again, future films will likely not include him or be a reboot and so be it.

I'm fine with Pirates continuing post Jack, but I think it should be essentially a reboot at that point, new universe and tales. I would like to see the Jack Sparrow era receive a proper send off. I actually would have been ok if AWE were the end, if we never saw Jack again, I'd be ok after that movie the way he ultimately gets the best of Barbossa despite what he tried, and that shot against the sunset is just awesome.

You did get lucky with Rambo and Rocky, but that took how many years....? And my gut tells me he isn't finished yet.

Bigger worlds like Pirates, Star Wars, Bond, Indy, Matrix, Batman, etc all seems to suffer from eventual exhaustion of good ideas and genuine reasons to revisit. Even if a reboot starts off well, it usually ends poorly.

Only LOTR survives nicely... despite the weaker but not horrid Hobbit.

I think Rocky Balboa was a great send off but then they had to add CREED !!! My 10year old son and I love Rocky movies. But it was difficult to explain to him “yes son that is Apollo’s son. No Mrs. Cosby is not his mother”. I also hate the fact that when I go back and watch Rocky 4, Apollo is ****ing around behind our backs in his scenes!!

**** the greed to make more $$$$

Yes, dead men tell no tales but dead franchises manage to go on past when they should.

I still think you could come up with a conclusion that isn't like "there could never be another story after this" but gives a sense of closure enough where of it's the end, you're ok with it.

Right now, if Pirates were to end, for me it would feel like when a tv show gets taken off the air before the creators intended. I'm not really sure what closure for the tales of Jack Sparrow could be other than dying for good, but I just feel like I need more after this movie, it's a good franchise entry but a weak entry in Jack's ongoing story and would be like Rocky 5 for him, we need the Rocky Balboa of Jack Sparrow tales.

My guess is we'll see Pirates flicks up until they hit the year 1800 or so, that would be a good send off point, and work for a story. The world changed pretty rapidly during the industrial revolution and the setting would just not work for a Pirates flick. Just my 2 pennies.

the Hobbit WAS horrid :slap :gah:

I think they make another.

Depp needs the money desperately and this is an ATM for him. Pirates is catching on overseas. Even if this doesn't do huge numbers, its likely positive enough to garner another try at the well. Not sure they do a trilogy. Might be one-offs from here on out.

Yeah I see another Pirates film...overseas it's doing great, here is good not great.

I just got back from seeing this, and though I enjoyed it and it was better than the last one, the first one will always be the best.

Considering the tease in the after credits stinger. I will be incredibly sad if there isn't a follow up utilizing what was teased.

Dammit! I missed this...what was it?

Edit: Nevermind, found it on youtube.

Davy Jones is back

I highly recommend downloading an after credits app to quickly see if there is anything after (or during) the credits just to avoid missing out.

Usually the ladies at concessions will say if there is. Guess they don't know. I didn't know there was an app for this. Thanks!

I would rather....

....it had been Barbossa

I feel like
It opens up the door for any past person to come back. It would be neat if Davy Jones creates a super villain team of Blackbeard, Salazar etc...it would be ridiculous but great! Davy could also bring Barbossa back but then Barbossa betrays Davy to help his daughter. One thing I really wanted to see in this series is Barbossa vs Davy Jones. We never got to see that. It needs to happen before the series ends.

Too true. And an award-winning ORIGINAL portrayal that came out of Depp, alone. And kudos to Gore Verbinski for letting Depp run with it. How many will ever say that a moribund genre of films was single-handedly reinvented?

POTC, Alien, Star Wars, LOTR, Rocky, Godfather - not that many films/characters that become part of culture. A lot of Oscar winners can't say that.

+ Indiana Jones :lecture

I thought this film was really fun. I'd give it an 8/10 I think!

I rewatched the whole series over the past couple of weeks, in anticipation for this. I had a great time. It was the first time I had watched "At World's End" since seeing it in the cinema back in 2007. I actually really liked it and it was not as confusing to me as it was back then.

The Curse of the Black Pearl - 9/10
Dead Man's Chest - 9/10
At World's End - 7/10
On Stranger Tides - 7/10
Dead Men Tell No Tales - 8/10

I live in Kent, England. I refuse to refer to this movie as "Salazar's Revenge". "Dead Men Tell No Tales" is such a better title. What a stupid decision to rename this in the UK.

No, no, no.

The Hobbit was BORING.
Desolation of Smaug was OK.
and the last one (forget it's title) is just ****. :lol

Overlong, and bloated w CGI..............Peter Jackson has finally gone full George Lucas on us. Never bothered w part 3 of what should have been a two part movie at most. The book is what? 210 pages or some such!
