Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yea. It's pretty cool. It's got little canons on the deck, a stearing wheel. Totally sweet.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

And I though I was bad playing with starwars ships.

Erm...I think not, but I'll try later. :D

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I have the Zizzle toy of the Black Pearl, and it's actually pretty decent (although its many action/breakaway features mean that it has a tendency to fall apart if you're not careful). It's considerably bigger than the model (almost 3 feet long), although it is of course more toy-like. Walmart is clearing them out for $25 with $0.97 shipping. For that price, I really think it's a steal.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If this is NECA Jones, I can't help but :google at the notion that some thought the Hot Toys Jones wasn't much better.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

yah i have the black pearl playset/ship from zizzle also and my kids absolutely love it. it's a nice toy with lots of little play features like firing cannons, brig, zip lines, etc. it has tons of playability. also looks pretty cool just on display.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The Hot Toys version is of course better, but to be frank I'm not sure the difference is as stark as with some of the other characters, since they are both made of plastic (and/or rubber) without cloth elements, and there is no human likeness to capture.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

NECA may look different in hand, but overally it just doesn't feel like Jones from the movie, almost feels like an interpretive figure but Hot Toys really captures him off the screen to me. They're totally different products so I'd say NECA's is top not for what it is, probably better than a lot of their stuff, but seeing that picture, I'm glad I didn't settle for it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well NECA had that figure produced even before Dead Man's Chest was released, so they probably didn't have a lot of references at the time either. Considering that, it was a very impressive figure. But Hot Toys is a million times better!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The Neca version is based on a art drawing that was made before the movie. :D

Interesting, that would explain the goofyness of his crab leg on the figure. I'm surprised they didn't revisit him for AWE just to take another stab.

I was surprised too. Seemed like a no brainer to have a fighting Davy.

Especially with the pose of their 1/6 Jack Sparrow, perfect for a fighting display with a Davy Jones. I'm not sure how well the NECA POTC line sold though. Up until their AWE line, the paint jobs on Jack figures looked like he was Mexican or something almost, AWE was perfect though. I have the 1/6 AWE Jack, 7" AWE Jack and 7" DMC Jack from NECA.

NECA once said their Jack Sparrow was one of their all time best selling figures, so I think the line did quite well, but I think they figured there wasn't going to be much support after the films left theaters. Guess they were wrong.

That or Jack Sparrow was a hit and the others not so much, I know I heard so so things about Sao Feng and a Will Turner once. I'm sure there are enough nuts like me that buy anything decent that's Jack Sparrow.

I'm betting that was the case. Jack sold well at retailers, and ironcially didn't move at online shops.

I don't think they were wrong when you consider their market segment. While there is a market for high-end figures like those HT produces, POTC as a brand really isn't doing that well in stores. Most places are clearancing their POTC stuff out, and as I mentioned earlier in the thread, places like Spenser's have trouble selling the NECA figures at 75% off.
