Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

NECA's trouble is that most of the people that would buy their stuff are also into Sideshow, Hot Toys and Medicom, whom are making higher end stuff of the same properties, so there's a bit of competition. Based on what I've seen personally, NECA's horror stuff is it's biggest success.

Got Davy and Jack today (along with DCD Joker). Love both of them. Davy is one of the BEST figures I own, bar none. He is incredible, and I highly recommend buying him.

The feather duster Jack comes with is really top heavy and hard for him to hold. I had to get a precise angle for it to stay in his hand.

MaulFan's wonderful photography inspired me, and this is how I have Davy displayed -

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Managed to get a V1 Jack body and outfit, plus the superb V2 head. Lord that is one sweet sculpt! the best Jack Sparrow likeness to date, and extremely well painted.

This will be the first Hot Toys figure that I've owned, and I have to say I'm impressed. As I'm not all that fussed about the 'Cannibal King' gear, I'm going to try repainting this head so he just looks normal, or as normal as Jack ever does I suppose! :rotfl

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

My Davy Jones only has one handle on his Dead Man's Chest.

That's bad, right?? It's supposed to have a handle on both sides??

The only thing wrong with these is how tiny Davy Jones is. I'm shocked that adding all those rubber parts on top of the TrueType doesn't make him bigger. Cannibal Jack is almost a full head taller than Davy Jones

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I got the tracking number (about time) and it says it's coming on Monday!!!

WOOHOO!

Maybe I'll get it before I turn old and grey after all!

Awesome, Eli. You will NOT be disappointed :)

Congrats Eli from what I have seen it's one hell of a 12-inch figure.:rock
Make sure to post some pics when you receive him. (You can never have enough pictures of this figure IMO.)

Check the box, it should have 2 handles but the handles attach by pretty tiny little tabs so it could have just slipped off.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Just got Cannibal Jack AND Davy Jones!!!

Davy is insane! My new favorite figure! And I love the way he smells. Seriously, everything people have said about the ease of posing and the incredible detail is true. And the face is dead on in person.

I haven't opened Jack yet, but the cannibal head is hilarious. Smiling Jack will easily be THE best Jack head for a basic all-purpose Jack...but that cannibal expression is hard to beat. So lifelike.

I also haven't pulled out my old Jack yet to see the height problem, but I'm having to much fun looking at Davy to ruin it with that issue right now.

So glad I got these two.

Glad you like him dude, and keep just checking him out, soak it in and by the time you're engrossed in Jones, the height factor won't be as big of an issue.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just love how they handled the gloss on him, it's like just the perfect ammount to convey a wet/slimyness, yet not be overbearing.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah, the wet look is great. It's a real feat of engineering to see how the "rubber" is broken down, layered and cut -- especially in the claw elbow. And note the separation on the vest and jacket below his belt. The detail is incredible - those clams or muscles on his back and shoulders is just so cool. Couldn't get this much detail in real fabric. For a character like Davy -- all octopussy and wet and slimy and highly detailed with crustaceans -- this was a brilliant idea, whoever came up with it.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yup, ultimately rubber was the way to go, fabric would have been a lesser quality figure. They really handled the rubber well too, doesn't restrict posing like Takara Batman, and it's quality feels like it'll endure over time too which is great. Makes me eager to check out the TDK Batmans, if they do similar with the rubber, poseability should be nice.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

HT loves rubber now!

Davy -- Nostromo Dallas and Kane -- Batman --

If it is cost efficient this way, maybe we'll see some of Davy's crew done this way too. Maccus is a must.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Maccus is a must.

Which one is that, I only know Bootstrap by name.

I'd love to see HT do the shark guy from Jone's crew.

I wonder if through some combination of rubber, True Type body and custom body parts like Jones, they could do the dead crew of the Pearl, or at least Jack and Barboss. Cloth would be ideal for those, but for the sake of things, I think they could use rubber and it would still look cool having ghost figures of the 2 captains.

I wanna see Barbossa at SDCC though.
