Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

This is sorta random but I thought it was kinda cool. This was published in a recent magazine apparently

Looks like HT, at some point, planned to release the Flying Dutchman version of Jack Sparrow. Ultimately they canceled it

Note: look at the bottom of the page. Next to the blue iron man.

The rest of the scans can be found here.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

i would have buy this in a heartbeat

why did they cancel it ?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Kinda cool. I'd prefer a skeleton Jack...or any of the skeletons from the first film.

But, then, I'd really prefer a BARBOSSA! Dammit.

My guess is that sales of POTC variants were slower than predicted so they made a decision to cancel that very "out there" variant that only hard-core collectors would pick up.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm guessing the nest Sparrow figure we get from Hot Toys is gonna blow us all away...

Oh dear god I do hope so. Much as I liked the latest PF I'm not into statues and prefer 1.6th scale figures, so having a new maybe better likeness figure would be a dream come true. :hi5:

So far imo nothing has beaten Madam Tussuad's sculpt of the character. Superb likeness and done by a friend of mine too. :D

I'm sure, they've come a long way from the original, in paint apps, costuming and sculpting. I look forward to it, just hope they make the necessary improvements, since some of the screw ups they made on the original seem like they could have been done right even back then.

I think a HT DX Jack Sparrow is the highest on my MOST WANTED list right now.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

A great Jack Sparrow is high on my list too, hopefully if HT does a new Jack, they do it right.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'll agree that a new Sparrow would be a priority, to purchase, but Depp has aged, and with HT it will be a more mature Sparrow, not the younger, dare I say "classic" version. I dunno, I still love the first and cannibal version. If, and a doubtful if, they do a DX, will they include a "Black Pearl" sculpt. not likely but dare to dream.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

eww. god no. Real hair looks good for about 20 minutes... then it turns to poo. ESPECIALY if you handle them often....

or live in the south.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Since HT only does full faux hair or full sculpted and hasn't done a mix yet, I say sculpted, Jack's hair has too much design too it that you'll never capture in mass production with faux hair. If they used sculpted for his more stylized parts and some faux strands for the random loose bits, that could work really nice, but like I said, they haven't mixed yet, and probably won't, so stick with what works. Unless the character's hair has a uniform look to it, the faux hair just can't do what it needs to.

Mixing real mini plaits and feathered strands with the sculpted ones would look excellent.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I can't see a reason not to try, especially with Sparrow, you don't have to worry about it showing where the strands come from, the bandana will cover it. I say stick with sculpted bandana too, mainly because of that hat, I feel like his hat would have to be too loose to not mess up the bandana putting it on, or it'd be a good feet and the bandana would look messed up to get it on.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I think the production value of that figure overshadows it's accuracy. Hot Toys' looks much more like Sparrow. There's so much mystique about the Kojun version that it's overlooked that it doesn't look much like Depp. More like the stuntman.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

So far, I feel HT's failed capturing Depp as Sparrow except with the cannibal head, somehow Yulli nailed it with that one but was off with her other two.
