Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm looking forward to getting Will. The sculpt is so impressive, and Elizabeth and Jack are getting lonely.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ironcially, I started collecting toys again with stuff from Sideshow and now I'm starting to branch out into cheaper stuff from NECA, Mezco, and the like, so I guess I'm following the reverse course in a way. As I mentioned earlier, I got a bunch of the NECA POTC figures very cheaply, and it occurred to me that I could probably buy their entire line of POTC figures for around the same price as one Cannibal Jack. The NECA figures don't come close in terms of quality, but they're not terrible and I like having all of the major characters in figure form. Anyway, I can understand wanting to focus on getting a few very high quality things, and I can also understand wanting to have more variety.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just cancelled my Cannibal Jack. Just couldn't justify the extra cost for the new sculpts and the staff/headdress/toe necklace. So I just bought a loose smiling sculpt on Ebay, about $110 cheaper and I got what I REALLY wanted from this figure.

I WILL be keeping Davy though. :rock

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah, as long as he can stand there and look cool, or hold a decent sword fighting pose, I'll be happy. The details in the sculpt are just too amazing not to love.

Nothing wrong with collecting NECA... their sculpts are amazing. I am just a maroon who spends money he doesn't have on figures that cost way too much for what they are. hehe

Yep. That's exactly how I feel. Like Maulfan pointed out, they'd never have gotten so much detail -- his marvelous "encrustation" -- if it was bits glued on real clothing. In this case, molded is best.

Having gone this route now, I wonder if it's more likely to see some of Davy's Crew? At least his Number 1, Maccus.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yes, molded was the way to go. And in my opinon he will still "fit in" with the rest of the figures. The way I figure it, he was all CGI in the film, and now he is just all plastic in figure form. Same difference right?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I might be buying Davy Jones eventually, what edged V1 Sparrow out for me was the known qualities; poseability and articulation, the actual finished sculpt, accessories, etc. At these prices I think I'd rather not be in the first wave of buyers in case there is some unforeseen issue that might be a deal breaker for me; as was the case with DCD's Green Arrow. And to be honest I love moving the figures around in new poses when I pass them by. My ANH Obi-Wan is by my bed and I re-pose him often, just for fun.

I might be a tad disappointed if Davy can only stand stoic or hold his sword straight out.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

i dont thing hot toys will let us down in the articulation department on this guy. they gave us a fully articulated endoskeleton afterall. that is insane.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Mr. Turner has shipped finally, due 5/13 :rock. Interestingly, he's been shipped UPS. Has SSC changed shipping policies again or something, that's 2 over $100 packages I've gotten recently that came via UPS instead of FedEx per policy, yet my Wolf Predator came via FedEx just a few weeks ago. Not complaining since UPS comes faster, but it is a curious thing.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Mine has finally shipped as well. I'm wondering the same thing have items changed back to UPS?

I'm wondering if with rising gas prices, UPS is offering better deals. Maybe it'll be addressed in this week's newsletter. Like I said, just a few weeks ago I got a FedEx, so it's definitely something recent.
