Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It seems pretty unlikely that they would make the pirate kings, no?

I'd say so, at the most, maybe Teague because of the Keith Richards hoopla, but that's about it. Even Norrington and some others you might expect may never see the light of day, could just be a line of various Jacks, Wills and Elizabeths with Barbossa and Jones tossed in the mix for some flavor, but so far, having released only core character, not sure what HT estimates for sales of people like Gibbs, Pintell, Rigetti, Norrington, and like Dave and I have said, even skeleton versions may never see the light of day because they're viewed as a bad return on the investment; HT wouldn't just give cheap versions of that look, and the R&D to make figures that really do the skeleton look justice would be quite extensive.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If I don't get Norrington that's going to bring the whole line down for me. I've been wanting a figure of him for forever, and if Hot Toys continues the Pirates line and doesn't make at least one figure of him, I will be so utterly disappointed. I consider him to be one of the main characters, or at the least - a very strong supporting character. He's featured as much as Barbossa and Jones.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'd like to see Elizabeth wearing the red coat and undergarment from the 1st movie. When she & Will are fighting the pirates together.
:chew
I'd also like to see my Cannibal Jack show up from AEC
LOL

That'd be fine too, I mainly want the undergarment like when she and Jack are marooned, and it looks enough like when Jack saves her from drowning too "easy on the goods darling."

"If you like pain, try wearing a corset!"

Yes that's the undergarment I was talking about too.
Also does anyone here have the Sao Feng figure?
If so what version did you get the regular or the limited edition version?

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yes, the pirate kings are unlikely, but that was the version of Elizabeth they went with and I would have thought 2 versions of Sao Feng unlikely as well. Of course that had the Chou Yung Fat thing going for it.

But look at the Predators - they keep churning out every possible version.

I always felt the choice with Elizabeth's outfit was that of her AWE outfits, and I figure they were trying to stay with the most current film, it was the most intricate and really a chance to shine a nicely crafted figure, which it was, plus with Davy Jones now, you can have her dueling him even like on the Dutchmen.

Ya, the Predators are produced a lot, however, I think the nature of their appearance really lends to people buying them up in mass numbers, it's just a cool creature design. None of the Pirate lords, in their faces or costumes, seem interesting enough to me to get a good selling, I don't want any of them, even Teague. I think this line will rest on really core characters since there are plenty of variants among Will and Elizabeth, and some other more likely to sell characters like Barbossa, Gibbs, Pintell and Rigetti likely to find someway in, even Bootstrap Bill is likely. It's a healthy line, but I don't know if it's healthy enough to branch into the real background characters like the Pirate Lords at $130 a piece, Sideshow could do it with Star Wars because it was affordable, but with HT's prices, you really have to expect a good sell to make it worth doing.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm thinking of getting one from AEC,what version do you recommend?
:chew

Well, if I had to choose one, I'd definitely go with the regular release version. The costuming is nicer, and you get more accessories.

See, I'd prefer all of the pirate kings more than Gibbs, Pintell, Rigetti or Bootstrap. They have extremely memorable and distinctive costumes and would be killer as a set.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I would rather have Norrington, Beckett and Calypso and even Gibbs over the Pirates Lords. Didn't like any of them. I thought they were too silly.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

My character choices come more from who I'd be willing to spend $130 on a figure of, not who I'd think would make a cool figure. Lots of characters I think would make nice figures, but I can't get everything in the line so I'm selective.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah, honestly the pirate lords (with the possible exception of Teague) weren't really developed in any way as characters and only had a little screen time. They might make visually interesting figures, but then again so would a lot of things. I usually buy figures because I like the characters, not just because I think the figure is cool looking.

That's why I never got Sao Feng and have no desire to, he's a great looking figure and the portrait detail is incredible, but the character does nothing for me enough to spend the kinda money he costs on a figure of him. For $30-$40 I might, but that's about my ceiling with him.

I buy figures for two reasons... looks and the characters it's based on. I need both to work hand in hand to make a purchase seem worthwhile.

just as silly as the rest of the sequels... to me there's just one POTC movie...

But i had to get the new jack for the alternate head :)
