Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Because I couldn't afford to buy Jack in one hit, I've been buying him 'one piece at a time' as the old song goes, and I already have one of his heads and pair of his hands and I'm surprised at how small the sculpt is. I was imagining the head would be on par with Sideshow size wise, but how wrong I was! He's tiny! :rotfl Going by the size of his hands, does his head look a wee bit undersized compared to his body at all?

Got hold of a set of Will Turners clothes too, and I'm amazed at how beautifully it's been tailored. Lovely choice of fabrics, and a great cut on the jacket. I look forward to slowly getting the rest of him. :lol

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Does anyone prefer Medicom Jack over HT Jack?:lol

Just curious,me personally think its ridiculous,Medicoms products is overpriced, and poorest quality,i see Medi Jack is at 169$ at toys2.HT is so much better, and cheaper.

No, I bought the Medi version a bit before HT announced theres and I kept him until I had the HT version in hand. The only thing I though Medicom got better was the skin tone (although not as realistic) wasn't as dark... but aside from that it was HT all the way.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I would say overall my favor would go to Hot Toys, but there are a few areas where I find the Medicom gets an upper edge. Niether got his coat color correct, however, Medicom's is damn close in the material used and Black is more fitting than chocolate brown if you're going to use the wrong color. The other area I prefer Medicom is the overall proportions; the body looks more like Depp in the role, the True Type body just isn't suited to Johnny's body type. The hat seems a tad bit oversized on the Hot Toys too and a bit better proportioned on Medicom. Other than those couple things, Hot Toys is definitely the better figure.

Well said... and exactly how I feel about the figure as well. With a repaint the Medi was a good figure. I still like the HT one just a tad bit better, thanks to great clothes and a great sculpt.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

For me, the Medicom Jack Sparrow goes well when placed side by side with the Hot Toys' Davy Jones. The reason being that Medi's Sparrow is a tad short for a 1:6 figure and Hot Toys' Jones is a tad short for the usual Hot Toys' 1:6 figure.

So, when placed side by side, Davy is taller than Sparrow, just like in the movies.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

The Medi Jack is great and would be a definitive version of the character if not for the HT ones. And I like that it's from Black Pearl wheras the HT versions have only been from the sequels.

But I can't see trying to sell it now (same with Medi Superman and Batman) - who would buy with the HTs readily available?

Really? You think the head is tiny compared to Sideshow heads? Doesn't it just look that way to you because it doesn't have an attached neck?

I'm not sure that buying the components of a Jack one at a time is such a great idea, since you're bound to spend considerably more over time than if you had just saved up and bought the completed figure.

No, looking at other peoples photos of the completed figure, I think he looks a wee bit 'small headed' in them as well somehow, although the 'big hair' makes it less obvious really. Maybe I'll think differently when I've got more of him! The body should be turning up any day now hopefully.

Yes, it probaly does cost more, but buying it in small drips and drabs means it takes less large chunks of cash out of my very depleted bank account. I shouldn't be buying these figures at all really, but I've never owned a HT one, and as POTC is one of my favorite movies I thought I'd indulge myself.

The reason his head looks small on complete figures is because the True Type body has very broad shoulders, too broad for Jack Sparrow, it's a trick of the eyes, his head is finely sized for 1/6 male figures.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I prefer the Medi Jack, but only because I bought him before the Hot Toys one and I'm loath to spend more. I'm trying to convince myself he doesn't look bad standing next Will.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Got Davy today. Looks great in the packaging, but I just haven't felt well enough to open him yet. :sick

Better than the doc expected, but I'm sore-er, than he expected. So I could be better. But I'll live.

Well I'm sure it sucks, but being well enough to come on here is a good sign, I know when I really feel like ass last thing I want is to get out of bed even. I may need that surgery myself some day so I'm curious how it works out for you.

I haven't gotten off the couch since I got home except to go to the bathroom. So there isn't much else for me to do but type here ( I can at least do that!).

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, tomorrow is the Day for Jones. In some pics he looks great but on Mikes review not quite so much.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Nice to hear you're OK Buttmunch. What kind of surgery did you have? Not too serious I hope...

I paid $70 for my Medi Jack, and when I sold him got $94 :chew So a win-win for me :lol

Get to pick up Davy tomorrow... though it would be a 3 figure day with Sam and Frodo scheduled to arrive. But much to my delight they both arrived a day early :rock
