Gotta look to the future, not the past. besides, just keep your current console!!!!!!!!

You like less features? You like less convenience? BC is just good to have. No negatives. Is it a necessity...of course not, but it's a great feature and understandable to be disappointed when it's not there. You can look to the future without losing useful features. I personally don't have room for the old and new systems in my entertainment center which means I'll have to go into my closet or garage and dig out my old console when I want to play older games.

Now that the used games is a equal playing field maybe.
True, I forgot about that for a moment. I actually keep forgetting about the used game thing, even though I saw it's significance, since I never buy used games or sell them. :lol

No required peripherals, no matter internet requirement, used games as normal, no automatic downloads... only 1 thing to say: Fatality! Sony wins! Flawless Victory!

Well Sony did very well, and I see no problem with people being happy to support a console that doesn't actively promote and enforce the ridiculous mandatory online check in, regardless of whether or not publishers implement it. :) I see that as a positive for Sony in every way. Now I'll know which publishers to get upset with when they do it. :lol

I prefer top tech; innovation over convenience, yes. I want the best possible games in 2014 and beyond, and backwards compatibility gets in the way of that. The more time and money spent worrying about BC, is money and time spent away from making the best system TODAY. So, that's just how I feel.

Hmmm, possible (not the part about the kool aid, which is kind of a pot calling kettle black accusation), but Jack Tretton was pretty clear. I won't rule out the possibility. Still, no 24 hour checks.

That's a placeholder date. Sony didn't announce one yet.

Microsoft says their system is coming November 2013, so I expect Sony to match the same date as soon as they announce an exact Nov date.

How does it do that? PS3 was all kinds of advanced from my memory and it was BC for PS1 and 2.

Can't find the original after all the people, buying the new hype but here is an article with the quote.

Well, there are two scenarios then. 1) Sony is leaving the ball in the publisher's court or 2) They've changed their policy since.

So it's still vague, but they were very explicit about being able to share games with friends without hassle, and that's something that goes hand in hand with the topic of used games and unlike what Xbox One is doing. Also, if Sony were still allowing publishers to restrict used games, they'd need an online check of some sort, but they explicitly spoke against that during the conference.

I'm not as skeptical as you, but I guess we wait to see if someone questions Sony about it.

Are people still trying to rationalize the Xbox none?

My sister will be getting a PS4 for her kids.

They all have Xboxs but when i told her of the restrictions she coudn't believe it. With 4 kids getting games on the aftermarket was essential to her.

Ok, the initial models of PS3 has BC implemented, had all the bells and whistles anyone could have hoped for, and at $599 it had FAIL written all over it. BC takes time, money, energy away from new games. And the PS4 price of $399 has WIN all over it. IF they did BC, it may have had to cost more, and no one wants that. Not with cloud streaming coming

See I see some pluses and minuses in both polices on games.

The install is no big deal , same with the Internet check, I have 50mb connection what's the big deal if it needs to connect.

Older games will be available via Gaikai or whatevers it's called.

But i wouldn't pay for games i already have.

If they could impliment a system where you take the serial number or something from your game and use that on Gaikai to download the game free, that would be perfect

Its more of an issue for people/areas that aren't as blessed as you or I with top speed Net

The $599 price wasn't because of backwards compatibility, it was because it had a Blu-ray drive (blu-ray players were like $800 at the time) and a unique processor designed by Sony.

Ok but it's amazing how many of the "people/areas" are able to play online.

It just seems like people are reaching for reasons even though they might not really be that big of an issue in reality.
