Except backwards compatibility has nothing to do with the discs. Sure you need to be able to read them but that is not the major issue with supporting backwards compatibility.

More good news:
The PS4 is confirmed to have a 500 GB hard drive included in every box when it goes to launch later this year. Some users, however, are concerned that the HDD may be too small for those that want to invest heavily into downloadable games. Last night, Shuhei Yoshida, president of president of SCE Worldwide Studios, confirmed on Twitter that the PS4 will allow for upgradeable hard drives.
The PlayStation 4 will also come equipped with a headset and HDMI cable in every box. The PS4 camera, however, will be sold separately for $59. For players who need an extra controller for co-op action, a new Dual Shock 4 controller will cost you $59 as well.
Via a tweet by Brad Douglas (of Sony Japan), PlayStation 4 will not feature region locking according to Sony Computer Entertainment PR. This is good news for people who import games from other regions.
Online multiplayer for PS3 will still remain free right?
Most likely. It's not for certain, but I don't see any reason why they would change their policies for the PS3. What's going to be strange though is what will happen if there will be any online games that are on both PS4 and PS3 (or even Vita). TitanFall is on both Xbox One and 360 so there might be a similar situation on the Sony systems. Or maybe not, I dunno.
I am very happy about this news.
I though for sure Sony was going to implement the same Ridiculas policy as MS, and l thought the days of gaming were over, it would have been for me.
So with this news l am going to get a PS4 (not for a while yet though), which is obviously a very easy decision.
The sad thing is, and what l am concerened about, is many gamers will still buy the Xbox1 as well, and MS will still make a lot of money off their Nazi console. I really hope they don't sell at all, and they recall the system or something.
MS still might get away with what they are doing, but l hope they pay for it dearly.
Region locking should of never been implemented in the first place.
No, it's already been confirmed at 60$ a year, just like Xbox live.
While I doubt a full on console recall WILL happen, WE will likely see some firmware changes that remove those features before the console releases.
The STANDING OVATION that Sony got to that announcement at E3 ought to be proof enough to Microsoft that it needs to go.
Yeah, not one of Sony's better ideas.
Sony presentation was full of win last night. Went to bed with a smile on my face. At this point, I would really want a XBONE for Gears of War and Halo, but two series doesn't make me want to drop $500 on a system aimed at totally benefiting EA

I'm glad I didn't like the last Halo or Gears. Makes it easier for me to say goodbye Xbox. I preordered the PS4 and can't wait for Kingdom Hearts. It's been a damn long wait for that game.
