I just casted my vote and pre-ordered my PS4. The guy at GameStop told me that they were already out of their Xbox allocation at that store. He said they are getting a lot less Xboxs. Glad I don't care. :lol

Yeah, that was way too much. I got the MSG4 bundle for, what? $500. Still felt like a lot, so in comparison $400 feels like a steal to me

$600 is a lot of money, but in 2006 it was still a good deal to me because I factored it into getting a Blu Ray player, video game console, and streaming media device. When I bought my PS3 the good Blu Ray players were still in the $400-500 price range.

That's why I shelled out the $599. I wanted the bluray player.

Charlie Murphy! :lol

PS4 has the same sort of used games DRM as Xbox One.

CONFIRMED.

Third-Party Publishers WIll Have Final Say On Used Games for PS4
In an interview with Game Trailers’ Geoff Keighley, Sony CEO Jack Tretton shed more light on how used games will work on the PlayStation 4. It seems that, while the system’s first-party games will be free to trade in or share without restriction, third-party publishers can choose to behave otherwise.

Tretton’s remarks start at about 1:08:00 in this segment:

“If the consumer pays x amount of dollars for a game and they don’t have the flexibility to get some additional value out of it, it changes the way the perceive the value of the game and it takes dollars out of their pocket to buy a new game... We just want to give the consumer flexibility.”
Asked what Sony’s response would be if publishers wanted to restrict used games sales, Tretton replied:

“We create the platform. We’ve certainly stated with our first party games, we’re not going to be doing that. But we welcome publishers and their business models to our platforms. There’s going to be free-to-play; there’s going to be every potential business model on there and again that’s up to their relationship with the consumer and what they think is going to put them in the best stead. So we’re not going to dictate that. We’re going to give them a platform to publish on."
On DRM:

"The DRM decision is going to have to be in the hands of the third parties. That’s not something that we’re going to dictate or mandate or control or implement."
Tretton also said that a PlayStation Plus membership will be a mandatory purchase if you want to play multiplayer for PS4.

Nope. Sony won't give publishers the tools to enforce DRM onto the player because there aren't any mandatory online checks. At worst, we'll see the same thing as we have always had on PS3 and Xbox 360: Online passes.

With Xbox One you can't even play single player on a used game, a borrowed game, or even a new game without having to check in with Microsoft first. On PS4 you can, since it doesn't force the connection on you.

Exactly. Anyone who claims this is anything like what Microsoft is doing is deluding themselves.

Sony CEO Jack Tretton said:

And Microsoft already said the exact same thing about their system.

Just like multiplayer being LOCKED unless you download a pass, it's completely possible to have a file you must download to acess the single player content. The most recent Dead or alive game had an update you had to download manualy from the Game's store. failure to do so Resulted in the most recent automatic update Locking out ALL features of the game. you couldn't PLay single player, or multiplayer, or even acess the games option menus.

So, Yeah, it's EXACTLY the same. and we could possibly see more lockouts than Online passes, though it would use a similar system.

You don't have to connect the PS4 to the internet...EVER. So explain enforcement in those cases.

For first party games, you're right. You don't.

For third party games, the publisher can choose to make that a requirement. Simple as that. Slap a " internet connection required" label on the game, and stick a registration code in the box. And make the game require a file downloaded from their servers to work. This isn't a New idea. Half Life 2 needed this EXACT system when it was first released on PC.

I'm not saying it's a smart Idea. In fact, it's an incredably stupid Idea. But the fact remains that publishers can choose to do this, or do something like it. And sony has given them Carte Blanche ( just like microsoft) to do as they see fit in this manner.

It's not the same as Micosoft.

XBox one you have to install the game onto the hard drive and then you don't use the disc anymore, all games including the ones MS publish themselves are then locked to that account. MS will allow games to be re-sold, and given to someone on your friends list who was there for 30 days. but there is no renting or lending policy in place right now. You however cannot ever sell the game on your own since you have no way of de-activating it.

Playsation 4, same exact tools that are in place now with the PS3, if a publisher wanted to make a DRM game right now they could. However after the reaction last night you'd have to hope no one is going to be dumb enough to try. It's also an extra cost to them since they have to have the servers to check the game, Sony isn't providing them unlike MS.

So even if Publishers decide that on XBox One they will allow you to re-sell your games to participating retailers etc, your still bound by the 24 hour rule, still no rentals in place, still can't just lend it to anyone you want. MS has put the DRM servers in place themselves. It is a lot easier for a publisher to use the DRM tools on XBox One then on PS4 since on PS4 they have to do all the work themselves.

Is Sony's decision to not allow Publishers to use any form of DRM a dangerous one? Yes it is, because the odds of a Publisher side server going down after poor sales are more likley then MS taking down XBox One servers that control all DRM.
