Gentlemen,
I will be going to Hong Kong next week end, and have arranged to meet someone (same people who made outfits for "Name Brand" companies) to make uniforms. I believe the quality of the uniforms will be FIRST rated. Need Trekkies' AND action figures collectors' opinions on the uniforms. The following will be stressed on my meeting:
1) pointy 3/4 knee high boots - will try to make with soft leather like material if available to help posting
2) Utility belts - the orange one (hip high) or the black leatherish (waist high).
3) Uniforms - the collar is what I can't decide. I think a fitted black undershirt will make the appearance a lot better. But if I do this, I should use the undershirt as the outfits collar and use a tight around neck V-neck outer shirt like the new ST XI movie (please search the web for photos). Nevertheless, if they can make the collar tight, fit, and lay flat on the body, we can go with that.
4) the bottom of the pants - just 3/4 knee high or should it be like the show that flare out a bit? (please search the web for photos)
5) Insignia and rank will be thin plastic iron-on. I have seen insignia base color in silver and in gold; which one is correct?
Please let me know your opinions. I need these info to talk to the people in Hong Kong.

BTW, to repay for your kind opinions, I will do this: Whatever they charge me to make these uniforms (planning to make 50 x K,S,M) I will just pass it along to those who commissioned Chris to do the head sculpts; nothing will be added - just the cost.
Thanks.

Nanjin

That sounds fantastic!

But I don't quite follow how these should be paid for? Obviously you will get some type of quote from the manufacturers?

Anyway, I'm very interested.

The quote I received is for a whole production project. I am asking them to do a "Piggyback" deal to make 50x3 sets of ST TOS uniforms. The deal for my other production is not firm up yet. Therefore whatever they charge me on top of my original production for these 50x3 will be the cost of these 150 sets. I will receive the detail breakdown when I am there next week. BTW, please give me opinions about the uniforms!

Sounds great so far. My input would be to go with the black belts, a sewn on collar that is part of the shirt, the pants should flare out a bit, gold would be correct for the insignia (I believe they are all gold, but they look like a lighter more metallic gold sometimes) which is the same color as the braids on the sleeves.

1- As for boots, this thread from the OSW has some great custom ones:
https://www.onesixthwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88759
2- sounds good
3- I've seen great versions of the TOS unis made both ways. I am DEFINITELY interested in them if you can get them done.
4- I think they should flare out. I had pants made some years ago and they kind of "flared" on their own over the jackboots, but if you're doing custom boots you might lose that option/appearance.
5- I have seen both as well and would be pleased with either.
I'm hoping I'll be allowed to take part in this search for the uniforms even though I already have two sets of Trek heads.

I'm all for completely screen accurate 1:6 scale Star Trek figures. I've given my opinion and what limited advice I have to nanjin about them. I hope that his great work on the uniforms, boots, and weapons and accessories will be paired up with Chris Howes incredible head sculpts for Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Hey, maybe down the line could we get the rest of the "TOS" crew too? Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, and possibly even a tribute figure to the late great "Dame of the Galaxy"....Majel Barrett Roddenberry as Nurse Chapel? That'd be great too. :D

I'm all in for Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, Nurse Chapel and a few of the key alien races (Klingons, Romulans, Andoran) and Khan would be nice too. I'm just hoping the completion of this commission sparks interest in the rest of the crew.

BTW, does anyone know where I could get a body for Uhura? I've tried to look for black female bodies and just can't seem to find any.

What about the black Buck body?

That was the first one I considered, but I don't like the Buck body. It's loose and hard to hold poses with, especially the female body. I could never get Asajj Ventress, Scully, or Buffy to hold a decent pose.

There are at least three possibilities for Uhura. First, you can try to find an AA PB from BBI. They're hard to score these days, but who knows.
Other possibility is the Tan Otaku body. It's lighter than Nichelle Nicholls, but it would work all right with tights. Besides, Uhura is curveous, and so are Otakus! :D
The thirs possibility is bodies made by herobuilders. The color is right, but the legs are bad and Herobuilders, though honest, have very long shipping delays!

The AA Cy Girl is what I used. I feel it is the best available at the moment. The Herobuilders would be my 2nd choice, however, if you're going to have Uhura sit down like she often was, then the Buck may not be too bad an option.
Just my $.02

I'm having trouble finding the Cy Girl version. Do you know where I can find one?
