Freaked Out
ok I'm gonna whore out some more of my stuff to you guys:
So I started this Russ Rep V2 about a year or more ago. In fact the crystal core and chassis was the very first thing I made on my new mill back then.
I went with a pretty solid yet basic crystal chamber machined from a solid brass rod. Mated to an internal aluminum housing, and lots of extra machining, boring, etc.
I was originally planning to do this as a CF-LS with string blade, but more recently got tired of trying to work the din plug solution with my old, core design. Since so much time had passed since conceiving everything and executing, the design wasn't really suited to a CF-LS, since the way I made the chamber open, close, and lock would have meant re-machining everything to have a latch system like Brad's. So forget that. I decided to go with a tri-rebel Green/Green/Amber LED in the emitter instead, and keep flash on clash as a feature. ^_^
Anyway, Russ' V2 had some things I didn't like about the design and consequently trying to work with it, ended up necessitating changes.
While I was still trying to work in the din plug, I had to widen the hole in the neck to accommodate the width of the din plugs. Russ' V2 has a secondary of-center groove cut into the neck below the wind vane. I am of the camp that this detail is totally wrong and should not be there whatsoever. It just so happened, sort of fortunately, that while drilling the neck out, that was a weak spot and it broke right at the extra groove.
So I had to remake everything from the grenade up from scratch material.
This also let me fix two other issues with his design. The width of the emitter flange was, to me, too small. The V2 is a stunt Obi ANH in creation, and so I think should match or come close to those dimensions of the ANH Obi. Russ' emitter flange was too small for a real derwent balance pipe, and too small even to match MR's LE V2. So I fixed that and made a new emitter at the right width.
Russ also had a concave bevel on the face of the emitter, and again, I think that is totally wrong. I fixed that too.
So the new neck, is more accurate (to me), and serves as a blade anchor and LED heat sink. The Tri-rebel is mounted just below the edge of the face of the emitter. Since there is no light having to pass through a skinny neck hole, the blade is flipping bright.
I made it touch plate activation with a sloth furnace circuit card, that I made two tone, and hid the recharge port under the graflex clamp.
The 14500 7.4 V pack and the CF LS live in the booster/pommel section, so the recharge port had to be further up, and I wanted it hidden.
