Post up some of those bios and their stands...,

I moderate the Lair and here you go . . .

Paint, leds, lenses are my own. First is from the original mold with sculpted laser housing, tip, and jaw nib by me. Second is a fan made sculpt. Third an effort by me and another member. Helmets rarely come with stands and most members hang them like framed pictures.

Buy Sideshow Mask = Wait wait wait. Get mask. Get upset. Get pissed-off. Deny replacement. Spend extra. Rework. Repaint. Always have doubt.

Buy from The Hunters Lair = Hang on wall. Happy.

Yeah, gonna have to disagree with you on that one. :cuckoo:
Not to knock anyone's work at the Hunters Lair (I enjoy a little prop building myself as a hobby), but I'd much rather have an officially licensed replica for my money. Especially knowing one of the original FX artist who helped create this iconic character was involved in the process like Matt Rose was.

So the paint was not very well done, I can deal with that and actually enjoy the process of adding my own touch to this replica. It didn't cost me one extra penny to do it, and I'll never have doubt about this piece. I've made it my own. When I look at it on my wall as part of my collection, I'll have a sense of pride and accomplishment. Hey, technically... I now have worked on a Predator mask with one of Stan Winston's original Predator FX artist. lol Never thought I could say that..

and I like the sound of it. :yess: :lol

Again, its not 100% perfect, but looking at these comparisons below.. I think its the closest I've seen out there yet. Hell, I even love the look of stand/wall mount. :dunno to each his own.

It's a great piece. I had planned to purchase one myself but it's not quiet exact. However the cast I posted above is from the original mold. Hero or stunt no one is entirely sure, not even Matt. Though he did use one as part of his reference for the new sculpt. Sadly, the mold is retired now.

Nice!! What's the back side of those look like and how thick are the molds? And what would one of those cost someone? :duff

Each cast has a different backside due to the styles used by the artists. Some can be fairly rough so I can only speak for myself when casting. Here's one of my unfinished casts. This is my first pull from some three years ago and my technique is a bit smoother now. My casts are meant for wearing and weigh maybe three pounds with a thickness of about a quarter inch.

Typical raw casts at the Lair can be one fifty and under unfinished. Finished will run about fifty or so less than SS.

Cool... I have a boar bio I picked up from a forum member here awhile back.. Really light and thin. Looks alright from the front but as you say yours are made for wearing. A thick and heavy bio like sideshows probably wouldn't work well for that application...

Some will make them thicker if thats a concern. Trust me, they don't have to be super thick to be durable. If you go too thick it can be just as bad as too thin. I've had cosplayers abuse them at a quarter inch thickness and survive. We're talking six foot shelf drops, being slammed against the pavement etc.

On a side note I've had friends receive shoddy or thinly cast helmets and thats a shame. Don't let it detour you from future purchases. There are many quality casts out there.

Alright ... I just got home and unpacked the bio and......

what a piece of poop!! The base feels like it's made of plastic, no weight like all the other bases and real hollow... Bio its self is on par with what I expected from having all the others so no real complaints there... Mine does have a mar in and on the right jaw area and the super wobbly attachment... That alone makes it completely useless! Gonna send it back for a refund!

if this is how they're going to continue to Make the bases (like hollow plastic) then I might be out of the line... Or they need to seriously come down on their prices...

Rant over... Going to the gym! :wave

Those are pretty cool, by any chance do you have any other pics of masks that were pulled from the original mold? Different angles? I'm curious to see more of what is different, that one in the first photo is an odd angle I suppose, doesn't look very screen accurate in that photo. :dunno

You mentioned the mold was retired, was there a reason? Just curious, thanks.

By the way, love the avatar. :rotfl
Who knew McClane could look good rocking then Riggs mullet.

You can check out more of the angles on my facebook https://www.facebook.com/Propgeek under "Original Predator Helmet Recreation". It was a large stone mother with an inner mold of latex (if i remember correctly) and it was only meant to last so long. Last I knew casts from it were starting to show the age of the mold and it was retired as to not destroy it completely.

There are interesting difference between the two. Mostly in that the original had rounder edges, thinner eyes, dip in the snout etc.

I think hell just froze over. Sorry it was so unimpressive though, I know the feeling well!! Real shame this one. I would have been real annoyed at that plastic base if mine didn't have bigger problems. Won't be buying any more in a hurry if that continues.

I was so excited for a Matt Rose P1 sculpt, shame how it turned out.

Psssht™ .... I don't know why ya'll think I don't have any issues with sideshow's poop... :lol

But yeah, that plastic base feels like a cheap toy.. I need to go check the P2 bio to see if it's the same. I'm 99% sure it isn't as I'm sure I wouldn't miss it... These two were released so close together that I wonder why they would have made the switch in materials used... :dunno

I could probably get over that but the fact that you can't even display it due to the wobbly attachment is F'n ridiculous!! All good though... $350 back in my pocket.. :yess:

:grouphug

I almost chucked the stand at the roof the first time I took it out of the box, couldn't believe how light it was, not good. It even bends when you press it..
