Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

Some good news over on SF, I'm not sure Igo posts here so I'll quote his post. No promises but there is a chance this thing will release with some improvements :yess:

Cheers Python, respect to Igo for coming out and clarifying the situation. He is clearly passionate about his predators and I hope he can steer this piece in the direction it truly deserves and give us the ultimate P2 maq in 6 months time or so. A glimmer of hope.

That is definitely some glimmer of hope from Igo. I'm glad he chimed in.

If anything, I feel it's the opposite - A very vague and slippery post -

So Im hopeful this guy will come back as potentially getting made, and with this "down time" Im taking advantage of the situation to try and get some things changed to the piece, but no promises if they can get changed or if this guy will actually get made, but might as well try..."

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

I think he just didn't want to promise anything until it is given the go ahead by the people in charge which is fair enough, I wouldn't call it slippery at all myself. Igo is the guy who produced this, he clearly wants to see this guy through if possible. And the fact he himself mentioned that there is a possibility it won't just be produced, but produced with the fixes us whingers have been begging for gives us hope surely? If it were definitely a non starter, I doubt he would have even suggested it.

Personally, I am now very optimistic, all of the disappoint from yesterday has blown over and I'm more excited than ever about the potential of this guy, lets just hope the changes and commencement of production are green lit once a capable factory is found.

At least me, HMS and a few others have our orders locked in when this is put up again better than ever and everybody wants one ;)

The extra hand would be really nice.

I like the base really. It's all about city P anyways.

IF this is put up again and IF the changes are made (I know you meant that too mate).

They have OBVIOUSLY done the right thing pulling it, I'm just not convinced:
1) That they will address ANY of the major flaws we have repeatedly pointed out.
2) That they will find a factory capable of delivering the QC this needs AT THE ORIGINAL PRICE.

I don't trust THEM to do the right thing, and even if they do try, I don't think they will find anyone to get it right at the original price - so they will drop it as a "sow's ear" - cutting their losses.

Again - I'd pay a lot more to get the issues & QC sorted - which is why I'll be forking out 1.5-2k to get one of Narin's painted when it's released. Narin's will be better designed (nobody does Preds better), perfect quality casts, assembly & paintwork 100% QC'd, and bigger.

The only reason for getting the mass-produced one at that point is "because it's out there" and the collector in me has a compulsion that won't be denied if it's "out there". Man I sicken myself sometimes . . .

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

The last line was just sarcasm lol. I'll probably get narins also when it releases eventually, but none the less I am real happy to hear this guy may get the updates he deserves. I agree that the tough part will be finding a factory that can actually do them justice, let's hope ssc can figure that out. I'd pay a little more if this were changed enough, but honesty I think 1200, plus shipping and duty is already high enough and any more would probably put people off ordering.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

Gotta admit refunding all payments for a further three month delay doesn't really make sense.
There's got to be a reason for it, abandoned project or re release with a higher price.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

I have just as much faith in this being released as I do the Queen Hive diorama. :lol

LOL - gotta admit - I agree with you.

This boat has left port, and sunk due to bad design & assembly.

Given this and the Elder LSB cancellation, someone sent me a link to a new Sideshow product line - this is apparently their first in a series of board games . . .

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

Don't believe for a second that its anything to do with QC, they've been doing Predators (Larger and smaller) for years. Simple pose, normal paint job, nothing flashy.

It wouldn't surprise me if they either tried the old shake and bake with PVC (like PVC everywhere but the body) or just didn't get enough sales to push it through. They take $1200 from over a thousand people then tell them it's canceled?! What a company ha ha.

Glad I'm out of them now, never to return.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

Let's crosspost:

If a new factory has to be used that could very much effect the price since the piece would be produced within the factories 2015 pricing points and not 2013 price points. I believe all involved at Sideshow will try and prevent the price from rising if it can be done.

Don't know about you guys, but this is what gets me worried.

Also, I'll add another thing: I'm not completely buying the whole "factories can't pull this out" argument. As I said, I perfectly know how Predators are very difficult to translate into statue form.
But I was also thinking at what XM managed to achieve with their Magneto. It went on preorder on August, and took only 7 months to be shipped out. The amount of details and paint app on it is crazy and easily on par with any Predator out there, it must have required a ton of QCing on their side. It's one of the most detailed statues out there, and they managed to pull it out smoothly.
We also know that XM tends to pay a premium to factories to ensure a better job and QCing, so my argument here is... are we really sure that factories CAN'T make these Predators real due to them being not skilled enough, or is it Sideshow that is not devoting the proper amount of resources in making it happen?

This P2 Maquette is an high end statue, more than any other Premium Format out there. Same goes for XM pieces. They're sold at 2-3x retail price of a normal PF, so I feel they should be treated with a higher amount of scrutiny and care. I can't help myself but thinking that Sideshow somehow tried to have this Maquette done with the same standards they use for common 400$ PFs.
And yes, I know that "Sideshow is bigger yadda yadda", that's exactly my point. Sideshow has more capital flowing than any other company out there, combined, so there is really no excuse for them not to increase manpower and QC on items that Sideshow itself labels as "very high end" by pricing them at 3x the price of a normal PF.
If they can't keep up the expectations with these high end pieces (see also the multiple failures with Legendary Scale statues), they should refrain from putting them on order in the first place.

Sold most of it to be honest. Kept a few grail pieces. Have a few orders from XM studios (Magneto) and did some customs.

I'd rather pay $800-$1000 for something with great workmanship and dedication than these churned out pieces of polystone (or plastic). They do occasionally hit one out the park (sideshow), but it's about 1 in 5. I can't take those kinds of gambles being international.

There's no way this will get made, they put the Batman PF off for about 2 years and it still came through. I agree with the previous poster, they tried to cut too many corners most likely and were left with nothing. I'd have loved to have seen it, it must have truly been a monstrosity for even sideshow to cancel it considering half the stuff they pump out.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

Oh dear! That's as good as saying it will come back with a higher price.
Customers will end up paying more due to a factory's failure :slap

What looks like the same factory that had to scrap and redo a large batch of XM Black Widow heads.
Did they pass that cost onto the customer? (Assuming these were produced in the same factory both were pictured in).

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

That's the answer then. The factory couldn't reproduce the P2 at the price point SS was paying. In order to get the P2 done well I'd venture the factory wanted more money. SS chose to scrap the original order at $1200 since they'd lose money. Now they will reintroduce it at a higher price to cover factory costs.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

AKA, Sideshow was too cheap and would rather cancel the entire statue than sacrifice a bit of profit to make a quality piece.

I see it more like they couldn't have the profit margin they wanted, honestly. Which is perfectly fine, they're running a business, not doing charity.
But with my example above, Magneto retailed at 899SGD (720$) or less, that's what XM used to cover production costs AND have a profit margin, with 800 pieces. Even with the Alien/Predator licenses being more expensive I can hardly believe Sideshow would LOSE money on a 1200$ item while assuring proper QC. That's the reason behind my post above.

Nope, at all. But Black Widow has just started shipping, the couple pics I've seen so far are fine, but let's wait and see how she comes out.
