Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

In a situation like this speculation is all we have.
Facts are there's lots of unhappy collectors being messed about.

One guy is left waiting for his $1,000 refund, chances are he'll be getting back less than he put in.
No Reward Point compensation on this one? People had only payed NRD on the Elder and were compensated.

That exchange rate BS is bad form.. SSC should refund those folks whatever it takes in order for them to get back the exact same amount they put in... I'd be calling for sure on that one!!

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

That's a good point. I was out $1000 for a while, had the EX comin....
Sideshow - How about that compensation?????????????????????

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

I don't know about anybody else, but I certainly wouldn't reorder it at a higher price point.

Exactly, but the amazing thing is there will still be people that got ripped now, come back and say stuff like - "well at least we get a proper predator, even if it is $300 more" without blinking. If anyone thinks it's right that you order a product, they cancel it, then they sell you it back at a higher price, they need their head checked. People could hardly bare the thought of splashing $1200 on this (lots of in hand fence sitters). Nobody is going to buy a $1400-$1500 version unless they go big and make it a LSF at around $2000.

Also Igo and SS Alex are damage limitation, not fans or helpers. Igo's said of the Superman Premium format (the PVC one) - "I don't think we ever listed it as Polystone". Hilarious.

They still make some good stuff, but it's clear they've gotten far too big far too fast. The elder bust is practically the same bust they've been making for years with some paint and minor adjustments.

Anyway, I feel sorry for you guys that went through this. I'd be pretty mad saving hard and being this much out of pocket for that long so it's a tough spot.

As already stated - I would pay extra if the fixes were done and the quality was great.

Some folks are lucky enough to be able to take that route - I'm one of them - I don't have ANY other expensive hobbies (well - besides the Wife) - this is it.

I'd have happily paid the $1500 in the first place for something that was designed well & QC'd well - so timing makes zero friggin' difference to me.

Still - it ain't likely to happen so it's all speculation anyways.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

I think it's safe to say that this will probably be cancelled. That's why Sideshow is returning money. I knew something was strange about the timeline. Igo is usually honest when he can in his posts. At least with the stuff I've wanted. TRON Legacy, Halo Cortana, etc. It just seems odd that they would give themselves only three months to get things right with the statue.

Maquette: Movie based character, usually 1:4 scale.
Premium Format: Mixed Media Statue, usually 1:4 scale.
Comiquette: Fully sculpted Comic character, usually 1:5.
Scales can vary.

Predator items are always more expensive. Detailed paint, hand made webbing and expensive licence.
The 1:4 Predator Maquette was $1,000 about eight years ago.

But they have movie characters as Premium Formats too.

Mixed media hasn't been a prerequisite for Premium Formats for at least a couple of years now.

Yeah I believe they said Premium Formats can be fully sculpted like Spider-Woman.

There's nothing wrong with paying for quality, I do that myself. I think it is wrong though to put people through this, pull it, then put it back up again. Unless it's a totally different statue. If the mold was already created, my best guess is that it had either really cheap PCV parts (the pads, weapons) or they just could not paint it (the details on the forehead for example). It's not a new venture. I mean you have Predators like the "The Art Department"s or Narins out there already (for equal or less) so it has to be the fact that sideshow made a really bad choice with the factory or a really bad choice with the materials.

I think if you pull it because of QC, you have to make it again at the same cost (not happening) or make a different statue. I can't see how anyone is going to put more cash down for the same statue. What assurance do they have?

We ain't disagreeing mate - I get you. But I'd still take the "corrected" version for more money if it's put up (which it WON'T be).

I mean - if it doesn't get released and they decide to put the Joe Dunaway master up for sale (again - they won't) - I'd be bidding in the 3-4k region for that.

They might, but they would have to drastically reduce the run size. No way they would shift 2000+.

Personally if I were them, I'd go back to figuring out how to get a LSF Pred at a profit with no breakage issues. The wolf predator was heavily underrated and very high quality (for me). If they did say 500-800 LSF preds, they would fly out the door. Their LSF line has been pretty unpopular from the reviews I've watched. Maybe it could do with a Predator to give it life.

XM studios are showing what more money, less pieces does. You might end up with the same profit margin and way easier to police QC. How is anyone going to QC 3000 statues? That's their problem.

Didn't say Premium Formats couldn't be movie characters but did say Premium Formats can be fully sculpted, even gave examples.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

Yea…we did that when the piece FIRST came out and we're told to piss off and that there wouldn't be any changes…now however long after they are canceling the piece..its done..IF they bring it back, it won't be the same piece or a changed piece, that is a fantasy..

It was likely at a stage where it couldn't be altered when it was first put up for order. That was a shame for all of us that wanted this to be THE P2 to have. Especially those of us who actually stumped up the money without being completely happy about all aspects of it. I have no idea why this was pulled, none of us here do ultimately and no amount of speculation is going to change that, personally I'm more interested in comments like this....

with this "down time" Im taking advantage of the situation to try and get some things changed to the piece, but no promises if they can get changed or if this guy will actually get made, but might as well try.

It clearly isn't a promise, but it's something, I'm happy it is at least being considered. I'm just surprised how negative this thread is over the last few pages. I'm the biggest loser here by all accounts, maybe along with one or two others in that I'm actually out of pocket over this thanks to our ****** exchange rate and me having almost paid this in full. Even so, I'm optimistic until we are told otherwise, it would be nice to see a little more enthusiasm on here until we get some kind of official statement on what exactly will happen.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

I'm surprised by the negativity as well, but then again people love to whine :lol

If this was any other company people would be praising the decision to give us a better product, but since it's Sideshow the hate must go on. It's so tiring reading all the hate.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

I might reply that if this was "any other company", we'd know exactly what went wrong and if/how/when they plan to fix it.
I think that the "hate" flows mostly thanks to Sideshow's lack of transparency. They have the right to be secretive, we have the right to be negative.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette (CANCELLED!... For now)

"My life" is a little exhaggerated :D it's just on this specific matter.
Life is something else.

Too many rainbows
and unicorns
and booze
and drugs
and barely legal teens
to be negative

Calling a spade a spade isn't being negative, it's being realistic. The reason many have no faith in SS coming through is because far to often we get poor results for our money. They tend to never give us answers on what went wrong. One guy may get a good statue others a bad one. Some get replacements, others don't. Sometimes we get great pieces like Gladiator/King Hulk and Hellboy other times we get Apocalypse. It's like going to your favorite restaurant and 50% of the time you get food poisoning...there comes a point you stop going.

Where's the hate? There was plenty of negative opinions about the product before this delay/cancellation was announced.
I'm sad for people who had enough faith to pre-order and make monthly payments only to be refunded which will result in them losing money.

Are we actually being promised a better product or just something closer to the, already flawed, proto? Surely that is what people expect, and should receive, when parting with hard earned cash.
It's not the fault of anyone here that the factory can't do their job.
