. . . They could refer to the P1 as a super douchequette and it would still be no less amazing.... Just slightly harder to brag about.

:rotfl - I SO would not want to look at pics of that - even imagining feasible poses freaks me out! :)

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette. BACK UP FOR PO.

From what I've witnessed here this is what happens most of the time when a non-predator fan is interested in a predator statue. It looks "cool" and that's good enough, and any real predator fans who can easily spot the ridiculous inaccuracies, and have legitimate complaints, are just nit-picking.

When Sideshow makes a Maquette, it is their intention to make a screen-accurate (or sometimes based on the concept art/maquette, definitely not in this case) collectible. That's how it's always been, regardless of the direct description of the word.

This thread just goes in circles.

Alllllllllllllllrighty then - after the latest round of "the gift that keeps on giving" (let's be honest - we all love this stuff!) I thought I'd share these pics of a GK build that a good friend of mine just finished painting up.

Off-topic, but appropriate for the time of year :)

It's described on the website as a "Santa Claus maquette".

.

That explains its inaccuracies LOL! Let's not talk about how bad it looks, specially the hard core Predator collectors, I say it looks cool!

Pass! I don't see quills...

His Wife bought him a visit to the local luxury grooming barber for one of those "rejuvenating hot lather straight-razor shaves" for Christmas.

Apparently they will grow back fairly quickly (well - faster than those on the Sideshow P2 will anyways).

Wow, what a good heated debate this entire thread has been. I thoroughly appreciate all the banter that has taken place. I do want to forward my post stating that I think that max and all the other guys make great points. I also want to state that I have preordered this "maquette" as well. With that being said I understand the purists and their complaints and I get it, the quills and spear fixes would make this an excellent statue. I also understand that for those of us not too particular this is a great statue. I, personally, would love a P1EX at $1200, but unfortunately that is probably not going to happen (if you have fun one you are willing to sell for $1200 I will buy it right this moment) then wonderful. You guys as a whole are great at picking apart these statues and appreciate that and I wholeheartedly ordered this because I am a predator fan and wanted a center piece for my collection. I know it's not perfect but I like it and damnit that's something I want in my collection. Nobody that looks at my collection will notice the inaccuracies and that's great, will I? Yes but it won't bother me. I feel like that's what matters to me as a purchaser, it doesn't bother me. Does it bother you? I suppose thats what matters. At the end of the day I really hope that this statue is what I want it to be, is it what everyone wants, no, but that's ok. Thank you for the wonderful opinions from both sides as I do appreciate and take into account all of it.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette. BACK UP FOR PO.

If so many people are happy with forking out $1200+ for 'interpretations' of the Predator then I am going to start sculpting!

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette. BACK UP FOR PO.

There's already people forking out thousands for the cinemaquette, and that's apparently an interpretation of the original predator.

And thank-you for the thanks

Please do note however, we are not "purists", and we are not "picking apart".

For example - I have a Predator collection that is without question one of the largest in the world. It includes many different interpretations of our fave character - those by Narin Ergudom being my favourite (IMO the only person ever to improve on the designs by Stan, Steve, Crash & co).

It's quite simply that (per my process flow and your statement) - some of us CAN live with the flaws on this, others CANNOT.

Each to their own - if we all wanted the same stuff then the world would be a boring place and (quite possibly) filled with Lady Gaga fans.

...By one of the original design team, big difference.
Although it does look odd next to the SWS masterpiece.

The Predator, as we know it, was a rushed design and build after the original 'Van Damme' suit was rejected as not working on film.
The Cinemaquette was the direction Wang would of preffered had he been given more time.
SW did a good enough job for me and that's the design I fell in love with as a fifteen year old.

I think the idea is that people don't necessarily dislike interpretations. However just calling something that clearly is not an interpenetration that isn't some god damn license to get away with doing a **** job. It's pretty clear that it's not an interpenetration, they ****ed up some things. Even Igo went back to try and get them fixed, but they were too greedy and lazy to give a **** about it.

There are also some issues with the cinamaquette that have nothing to do with interpretation that people give it **** for. For example the spine that's slung over his chest is WAY too small. Nobody thinks this is because they decided to make an "artistic interpenetration" where the predator was 3x his actual size, it's because they ****ed up.

Yarp - but I think that's the ONLY quibble I have with it - and SOOOOOOO easily replaced if it bugged me - I prefer to think he killed that small fella off "X-Men - Days Of Future Past".

Yeah it wasn't a game breaker or anything. Just saying there is a difference between "artistic interpretation" and just a plain old **** up. I think the it looks great, however I am not so enamored with it. It certainly looks great, has great providence, and an imposing size but I feel like it could have been done better. Certainly the paint could have been done better. Though that's not to say it wasn't worth it for people who bought it (wish I did! :p), it's certainly a worthy piece. I just think it could be done better, maybe if Narin ever finishes one of his larger sculpts :p

Toally agree with you - love my copy.

RE: Narin - love to see his "Death Warrior" in 1/3 scale :winner - not to mention several other pieces that would scale-up nicely.
