Hmmmm - found this - https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/9076812_kevin-peter-hall-predator-spear-from-predator-2

Seems to be claiming this was the (or one of the) original, extended length at 95".

  • If that IS correct, true 1/4 scale would be 23.75"
  • The Sideshow spear is 18.25" (5.5" short).
  • Would also mean the Sideshow spear is slightly smaller than 1/5 scale (10/52)

Kevin Peter Hall "Predator" spear from Predator 2. (TCF, 1990) Impressive weapon of fiberglass spears with resin points mounted to a central spear shaft with central biomechanical grip of foam latex. Wielded by Kevin Peter Hall as the "Predator" as he rampages through Los Angeles and seen clearly on top of the Eastern building when he lifts it towards the sky and draws down a bolt of lightning. Completely hand-painted and detailed to resemble copper-colored metal, it measures a full 95 in. tall! A couple of the spear points are broken off, but present and easily repaired.

.

Even without accurate measurements anyone could look at the SS one and just see that it is massively undersized.

I have the NECA 1/4 with collapsed spear. The casing for that is too small for true 1/4 scale as well.

Now I have a spare Sideshow spear/hand, I'll be trying to build a true 1/4 scale spear. If it works out OK, the hand would then have to be drilled out and the fingers repositioned to get the thicker casing to fit.

Yeah it looked a little small to me too, but I figured it would be better at least ><

Sorry - to qualify - per my post yesterday (#6497)

. . . As a comparison:
  • The casing on the large scale NECA (supposedly 1/4 scale) is 4" . . .
  • The casing on the Sideshow maquette (supposedly 1/4 scale) is 4.25"

BUT the overall length of the NECA extended spear is slightly larger - pic courtesy our very own Matt (@Python) . . .

NECA above, Sideshow below.

I can tell that's my picture from the chip on his nail also ;) The neca spear is actually bigger in comparison that it looks in that photo even. It's cheap plastic, but is better looking over all than the spear on this maquette. When I get a new one, I'll probably have a go at making one also. Spike, bear in mind that you'll definitely have to change the magnet in the wrist also, it barely holds the undersized spear provided.

I'd would like to know too haha

Any suggestion on human trophy to use on his empty right hand? I google'd trophy from NECA Gort but it's too small. The statue itself is more like 1/3.5 so most 1/4 human skeletons are useless...

Sideshow genius made the skulls on the base 1:5 :thud:
if you ebay search 1:4 scale skull there's a couple there but I don't know how well they match. I'm probably going to use the skull from my Freddy PF ex

I received my breather mask hand today and it is noticeably nicer in sculpt and paint job than the hands that came with my regular edition. The breather mask is well sculpted and painted as well. The piece looks like it was done at a different factory or something. Anyone else notice higher quality ex parts?

I don't remember my EX parts being nicer than my regulars. You can get that with SS sometimes, just depends on who paints what and the day of the week. 2 of the exact same statues can be set next to each other and the number of differences would amaze you. I have seen it many times. I even had an Alien piece I had 2 of, they were completely different colors!

This brought me question: Does the quality of paints have anything to do with "low numbered"? I think not but maybe... coolness factor?
