Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Granted I was hoping this was under the $1000 price the original P1 maquette was, I dont think this price is that much crazier. Who knows what the license fees are for this piece. Also at 28" that includes the base im sure this is close to the same height as the first statue, keep in mind the P1 maquette is crouching.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

I've asked what makes a maquette a maquette and haven't gotten a real answer either... why because there is no logic to when sideshow uses it.

Maybe it used to mean a movie related study piece to them.... original molds, original sculpters/FX artists, scans of original costumes, etc...

But lately they have been throwing any old sculpters who haven't worked on the movie into this label.

They also have Comic Book and Dinosaur maquettes Now. The dinosaurs are from the Discovery channel I think. :dunno

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

well this years comic con was expensive and I didn't even go. ouch!

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

lol cant believe both of the predator "pros" think the paint is underwhelming.

ouch for joe dunaway... who is considered the best painter in the biz for predators.

personally i dont really see anything super offensive with the paint
Don't care who painted it - the patterning on the skin (arms/legs) looks flat/lacking depth.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

fine, real answer - traditionally maquette means a statue that simply cannot be scaled due to actual real size. For example the Optimus Prime is a maquette, so is galactus, avatar amp robot, thor's destroyer etc... anything that is impossible to produce in 1/4 scale. And although not explicit, maquette also implies higher quality/detail and non-uniform price than regular PFs. And PFs are those statues that can be made in 1/4 scale and follows a standard price range.

That was before, now sideshow just uses the term maquette on popular pieces to allow them to charge whatever they want. I wasn't kidding when i said the real difference is $800. Because if sideshow labelled this PF and charged $1200 EVERYONE will freak. But a maquette....we as collectors are already conditioned by ss to accept it, sort like how you train a dog.

its bs none the less; they should either explain the difference and the cause for the drastic price increase or charge the normal rate...again people arent unreasonable imo..if you compare gladiator hulk to another PF, we get why hulk is 300 bucks more bcz look at the size, etc. But this is the same size (smaller by 2inches) and is in the same scale...so what gives...and i seriously doubt the predator license is enough to justify $800 bucks more than all the other marvel, d/c , lotr pieces etc (within this scale)

Wow, I agree with this. :goodpost: the paint really looks so, so. It's 1/4 scale still. Now I will never get a predator 1/4 next to my big chap.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Just saw the price. I am out to say the least. I hope the price is worth it. I recently received my first SS peice which was Deadpool and it is unreal hard to beleive this thing could be 3 times as good which is how much more expensive it is. I hope for the sake of those ordering it is. I think I'll take the cash and get a 2 comic busts instead.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

I think I'll flex tis guy and use my 160 in points for him. Him and Doom will be my only orders for next year. Can't just leave 1/4 P1 and Wolf hangin

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

and yea, it's overpriced like Wolf, obviously not as bad, but Preds is my main line, and I will pay top dollar for the best of the best.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Also maquettes where originally all sculpted and premium formats used various mediums to achieve the finished product. maquettes generally have more work put into them since they need to sculpt everything.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Yeah I prefer the sculpted clothes. Some PFs are kinda like big dolls that don't move much. *Dodges Artillery Fire*
Some are more like statues.
Lately I don't know what to expect from sideshow with their labels.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

looks like PF just means 1/4 scale now on SS site they must have changed it
this GL looks like a statue to me
