Yeah i really want this guy, but I do agree...the tooth ring and the broken tusk are almost a must. The knife I can live with, while not accurate its not to far off from his original knife.

Yes, I do (did). In fact, I painted the new Snake Eyes that also got teased today, as well as another (unrevealed) Predator for this 1/5 line.

When you paint up the protos do you ever mention the inaccuracies in the sculpts? And if you do, do they ever address your concerns?

keep up the great paint jobs man :)

I'll second Empires compliment. Great job Silent. Regardless of the inaccuracies the paint is really nice. I cant wait to see what other pred they release.

Ah fair enough so its more of how it all looks in your display, not that you think the sculpts do not translate as well or anything like that.

Let us know if they say anything about the knife or piercing, but with the lack of response to the P1 spine trophy i am not too hopeful.

What are with the P1 Spine Trophy ?

The Laser Scanner on the Plasma Canon is lost on the Elder.

Joe Dunaway painted this one. Kudos to him, it's a great paintjob.

On the P1 1/5 statue he does not have the spine trophy that he wears along his back/side. I know people have said they reached out to SS about it but never heard back. Just seems odd that these things get looked over so easily.

even without the spine trophy, i still like the classic much better, it's a.. well.. classic representation of the predator, and the pose is awesome holding out that bloody skull.

china paint remains to be seen, fingers crossed the netting will be good.

Yes, I do. No, they don't. In fact, they really haven't taken it well when I've pointed stuff out. In their defense though, once something gets to a painter it's pretty much too late to do major reworking of the design or sculpt. As far as screen accuracy goes, there is almost always something not quite right about anything. And other times, it seems like it takes an entire team of artists to miss the obvious.

Sometimes only a painter like me will notice something is off cause I'm usually the only guy who looks at something as closely as the sculptor, but the sculptor doesn't always care to be super accurate. He may just be doing a job. I, on the other hand, try to feel and be the character while I am working on it in order to do my best to bring it to life. But when it's just business, a company doesn't always have that kind of luxury. It's just gotta get done, and good enough is all that matters.

Good post, people seem to forget those statues are all made by individuals of various skills. So if you have a good sculptor who cared about his work + a good painter who also does (like mr silentsurfer) + good QC at the chinese factory, then you create dreams. On the other hand if any one of those fails, the statue becomes average to subpar. The brand name sideshow can only do so much to ensure some basic level of quality, but at the end of the day it's still the key people who does the work that makes or breaks a particular statue.

I hope silentsurfer & other contractor artists get paid a set amount for their work as oppose to commissions based on some sales #, because otherwise things outside of their control can really affect their income.

Nope, no set amount. I actually took a big loss when I made my contribution to this line, but I took it for the opportunity to prove I could paint a Predator well. I'll be curious to see if you all think so when you finally see it.

I also want to clarify that I think Jeff Yagher is an incredible sculptor and I meant him no offense by anything I said.

Yea i can totally understand it from a logistics perspective of trying to rework things, but when its something like a missing accessory i feel like they could throw on an add on part or something.

In either case I appreciate that you bring it up to them and wish they took the constructive criticism a bit better. I guess its easy to forget that not everyone is as passionate about this stuff and it is just a job to them which is a shame. I know i would love to be working on this kind of stuff.

Anyway thanks again for your insider perspective.

For what its worth I think the statue looks outstanding, really buzzing about it, defo gonna get the EX.

I think it may very well be intentional with the lack of spine trophy on p1 and the sword/piercing on Elder.

There is alot of toy companies and such that get the licenses to brands and permission to make certain items but at the same time theres is bits in the contract which say you can only make it to 96% accuracy and such. For the last 12 years or so i was importing Japanese versions of items that also had American and European branches that made the same item BUT the contract was different so they specifically had to paint a limb a different colour.. or deliberately give it inaccurate stickers

Will definitely PO the EX even is not 100% movie accurate. If SSC will make PF 1/4 scale i will still buy it. BUT that will take a while or maybe they won't make one. P2 is long due all we got is diorama. Better PO now than be sorry later. Just my opinion :)
