Cancelled mine today, but not because of the new pictures (in fact I only saw them now, and it's true, pictures can be deceiving). I just don't like the new body HT uses for the preds. I have the Shadow pred, and even if the figure looks good, yes perhaps even more realistic that the older preds, it has a strong 7" action figure vibe going on. No more new preds for me, I just like the older Preds (minus the early AvP preds) better.

I'm not complaining about the figure, and I'm liking it, although I agree a bit on the face paint job issues I've seen people saying. But I'm wondering if this hole I marked on the photo is normal. Seems like a hole to attach something...

BTW, speaking about the face, I looked for a previous picture when it was announced, and to me it seems the face colors seem close to what has been seen and talked. It seems to me it also looks too white here as if they stopped painting it, not that I think that is too much a problem:

You know what? I have the 3 super predators and Lost and P1, and although I see the strong points in the newer ones I also prefer the older ones... but I like them all . BTW, I finally have Shadow on the way, got a good deal from UK .

Body and armor paint apps are beyond perfection for me. I'm only mildly phased by the forehead paint, but he should look great in-hand. The single nitpick I have that's really worth mentioning (and that doesn't depend on picture quality) is that they painted a larger portion of the eye yellow. Not sure why.

I agree, not only does the body armor paint look great, but it doesn't have that hammered texture that the P1 did.
And I think the changes they made to the eyes help give it that more cartoony/toy-like look...unfortunately.

That's also the one that bugs me most! Looks like HT moved to the factory that paints NECA figures!

Just look at the eyes and the forehead pattern.

If you actually had reason to say that, no one would be buying this thing. It's a bit of a stretch, that's all I'm saying.
The patternation is less-detailed, but the only thing that even remotely bugged me about it was the brightness of the orange-brown they used. Luckily, based on the picture theory thing, that probably won't be the case in-person.

I'm with you on the eyes, that's for sure. If there's anything that really gets to me, it's those. Still a sweet-looking figure and as a whole, I'm as pumped as ever. The sheer amount of accessories and body/armor paint app quality this guy boasts makes him a must-have. Dare I say, the paint from the neck-down actually looks better than in the prototype images. Way more P1-ish than we were led to believe.

Personally I think we've come a long way from this in terms of the paint application.

but i do prefer how they applied the twin triangular shaped black spots on the old P1.

Never thought there was anything wrong with that apart from the overly red mouth.

When you compare the apps on the forehead (the orangish brown spots) to the ones on the newer figure, the newer figure looks better. It seems like it blends into the base colour a lot better. And the apps are more fine and precise, as in they look less like random spots and more like an integrated pattern.

I'm not quite sure how to describe it though. It's like the irregular shaped spots are slotted together or something, to be arranged more neatly.

I thought HT used stencils for painting their figures that have unique skin patterns but I guess not. I think that would solve most of the paint problems if they used fixed stencils.

By the way, just noticed that the head also is missing the painted quills. If you look at the proto it has the painted quills on the brow.

I still believe this will turn out to be a great figure once we have it in hand but I do think it will be one of those figures that will look outdated within afew years. When the design is hugely based on the original P1 design people will continue to demand greater accuracy and paint apps etc.

We all knew that the figure we will end up getting will look different from the proto pics, we have come to expect that from Hot Toys.

crap you're right! The quills being absent really is detracting from the overall look as well, but not something I'd loose sleep over. I'll probs try my hand at adding quills via paint when I get him.

I think they use stencils too, but surely the technique has improved over the years.
