I love Alien and Aliens equally just in different ways.
You have to respect Aliens for taking a chance and doing an entirely different kind of movie that the original. Following in its exact foot prints would have just seemed like imitation.

I'm perfectly able to enjoy Aliens as much as Alien for different reasons.
With horror/slasher movies I always pictured scenarios in my head of how would things turn out if people were trained and had resources to face the killer, well, Aliens is the answer to that and still manages to create its own tension from that very thing, so it's cool.
It's not as scary and it's not supposed to be, and that's ok, it's all about context.
At least we got Alien 3 afterwards that returned to the original formula.

I understand why people love Aliens over Alien, just like with T2 over T1... and I was that way when I was younger, but my tastes have shifted to the originals.

If I had to pick I'd chose Alien over Aliens.
But T2 is a different story, when I was younger I liked Aliens and T1 better myself
I think because Aliens was the 1st violent movie I saw as a kid.

I never thought I would switch to T1 over T2 as a kid, but it's changed for me by a huge margin the last few years. I think if T2 was darker, maybe I would go that way... but it was aimed at being more kid friendly.
But don't misunderstand, T2 is still one of my all time favorite films and it's in there as being one of the greatest sequels, ever.
I just wish we'd get a HT Reese already...

I've always preferred Alien over Aliens, even as a kid. I think it is more down to the actual creature both in terms of appearance and how he was presented. In Alien, it is a beautiful and deadly being, the likes of which we had never seen before. It was clever and powerful! You genuinely felt the crew had no chance. In Aliens, the creature designs weren't quite so graceful, and they were presented more like insects or cannon fodder. This is fine, it just didn't have the same impact on me at any stage of maturity. I like both movies, I just prefer the horror vibe that the original captures so well, Alien 3 goes back to this feeling somewhat and also has a nice creature design which is why I hold it in quite a high regard, more so than most at least.
I like both Terminators, but if pushed I would go with T2 which is weird given all I said above suggests I should prefer the first. I just liked T2 more.

I wasn't ever a crazy fan of it, but I thought it was an OK film. But as time has gone on, I like it less and less and currently have no desire to watch it ever again.
Ridley didn't want Xenos in it, but then has that tacked on scene at the end... and now with whatever the hell this sequel is, it's going to have multiple Xenos in it...
At least we always have Alien and Aliens to go back to.

Usually it's studio execs that are the bullies and push their wieght around while making stupid decisions.
With Prometheus - it was the director's turn.
I'd be happy if he never made another movie.

I've watched the "Making of..." film, Ridley didn't have a slightest clue about what he wanted.

Sounds like a reboot already.
I was expecting a twist but seriously jumping ten years later, no Shaw only David and a new ship with more cannon fodder is quite dissapointing.
