The 360 had a year head start on the PS3 and by the end (based on reported sales figures?) Sony has sold more consoles to date. What's going to happen when Microsoft doesn't get that head start because their console is $100 more.

It won't matter IMO. I think you're gonna see the same pattern as before i.e. Sony will sell more consoles in Japan and Microsoft will sell more consoles in the U.S. with both selling relatively the same amount in every other region.

I don't think we can use the current gen as a guide of what will happen next. PS4 won't have any of the shortcomings that the 3 had while the One has more shortcomings than the 360 had.

^Yup. The biggest issue with the PS3 was its launch price. But, the PS4 will be $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, so that might give it a good sales bump.

What shortcomings are you referring to!?

The first PS3 model (the 60 GB one from 2006) featured hardware emulation for PS2 games via an emotion engine chip, which resulted in higher manufacturing costs, and an initially higher sales price. The architecture for the cell processor was also disliked by a lot of programmers, and they opted to develop their games for the 360, and then port them onto the PS3.

Anyways..

Both consoles are relatively the same price as of right now yet the Xbox 360 is still outselling the PS3 here in America and the PS3 is still outselling the Xbox 360 in Japan. The price drop didn't change that. There's a huge gap in sales for those two regions between the two consoles. I don't think anything will change with the new systems. Just seems like Japan supports Sony more than Microsoft and vice versa with the U.S.

Thanks for the info.

But, you're talking about the current consoles :lol. I would think that the PS4 should have an initial sales bump this holiday season over the Xbox One, because of the price.

We'll just have to wait and see how this entire thing plays out...
