Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

I don't think it would be that big a deal. There are plenty of good examples of existing figures where the manufacturer took the time to provide detail on exposed areas such as the upper body. Star Trek is a very special franchise, and it's important that the company producing these figures takes the time to do each one properly.

There are some generic bodies now where you can pull out the forearms or lower legs completely, so if they used one of those they could simply sculpt a new forearm and plug it into the slot.

McCoy should a either that belt pouch for his medical equipment or maybe the black surgeon's case he carried from time to time and not forgetting the ring on his pinkie finger that De Kelley always wore.

I was just about to mention the pinkie ring. So for accuracy fanatics, that's definitely a must.

As for the tunic, if they go that way then I hope they include his regular uniform top as well, because to me bare arms (or in McCoy's case, bear arms... :p) rarely look good to my eye at this scale. So the option for his regular/away team look would be most appreciated. After all, choice is never a bad thing.

again to me i just like the older paint app waaay better. I dont see how the new one is better. The older / previous head had shades of purple above the eyes, more flesh tone pinks for the cheeks and doesnt look as cross eyed as the new. Ive just gotten acustomed to the older one since we have seen it for much much longer and really think its better looking too. Im just feeling a mass produced kind of reduction in quality in the paint app area ( dont hate, just my 2 cents). They eyes especially just look abit funny.
maybe it is just the lighting or something

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

Prototypes always have much more time spent on them. The production pieces will always be slightly less quality as they are produced in much higher numbers.

Not only that but most proto pictures also have digital edits etc. Take Star Ace for example. Not one figure (Hermione Maybe) has ever came out looking the way it does in proto shots. It's something that happens. You can always send Spock for a repaint to someone who knows what they are doing?

Edit : It's not just Star Ace, It will be most companies. It's a natural process that happens. When you advertise your figures and what you have coming out you are going to make them look amazing and 100%.

Thank you! I must admit I don't have much experience in the 1:6 world, so far I only own the Big Chief Studios Doctor Who and Sherlock line, plus one DID Obama and some toy figures that are not worth mentioning.

Whatever they do, I'm sure it'll be great. Seeing the official announcement now on the QMX page, with all the details and extras and how the hands are shaped to hold the various items... man, I'm really excited.

The pinkie ring is a must.

I had the same thoughts about providing both the tunic and the regular uniform shirt, especially as the tunic is regular attire for leaving the Enterprise.

I think another must accessory is the Hypo Spray:

It's going to be interesting to see what the figures look like in hand with the choice of material that was selected for the uniform shirts. The original uniforms were velour and the material being used does not look like velour. However, the material selected appears to pick-up light similar to velour, and that may be why is was selected, along with how well it stitches at 1/6 scale.

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

Remember, Warpsmith, that the tunics changed fabrics from velour to a - I think it's nylon - in the final season. The velour would've been pretty much impossible to replicate in this size, I'd assume? Either way, it looks like they're trying to mimic the season 3 version.

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

Yeah I've seen some TOS customs using a more velour type material for the shirts, and it always ends up looking too thick and furry for 1/6 scale. The fabric QMX is using, while having maybe a bit too much shine, still seems to work a whole lot better overall.

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

So now that we've established McCoy how about Uhura? I'm guessing her earpiece and a bridge chair? She's not going to look right standing up you know. lol

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

I know there's ZERO chance now, and development costs would've been through the roof anyway, but it would've been cool to buy the bridge a piece at a time as a kit of parts, released around the same time as each character - Captain's Chair, Uhura's station, Spock's. . . etc.

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

Nanjin made a captains chair a while back. That could be a possibility at least.

Yep. And he mentioned it was a possibility in the future for Qmx. Just would be nice to build the bridge up. Only problem would be the space to display it. I've seen a 1/6 scale bridge and it took up a lot of room.

Re: Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock

Yeah, definitely no full 1:6 bridge for me. Not in my tiny apartment. I'll have to live my bridge dreams through the Mega Bloks version. Which I highly recommend btw.

But a captain's chair would be absolutely awesome! I'll add my vote for that if we take votes.

Yes, the tunic material changed to nylon as the velour would not hold up, and using nylon solved the problem. I can't wait to see how the red tunics come out!

I think making the bridge in pieces would be practical, and the same for the transporter room. The Captain's chair, bridge chair, and even sections of the consoles used are not that complicated.

:exactly: I've looked into making them for myself. It could just be like the Hollywood Collectibles statues and be a small piece/section of each - enough to give the flavour. Or even a three-dimensional background that's Detolf sized etc.

Nanjin posted this pic a while back of Kirk in his command chair:

Not sure if QMx plans to mass produce the chair but Kirk comes with his tablet and stylus and the only place that I remember him using it was sitting in his chair or standing next to it so hopefully they will.

I think this must be from the sequel to 'The Empath' where the Vians understand Kirk's attachment to his command chair and transport it along with the Captain to their planet.

As soon as I pinpoint the coordinates for Nanjin's chair, I'm going to transport it to my home. Definitely need one, with several Yeoman to go along with it to assist Kirk as needed. :wink1:
