Quantum Mechanix 1/6 Star Trek The Original Series Kirk and Spock
They changed to nylon in Season 3, more or less viewed by Trek cosplayers as "official".
There were 2 reasons for the change of fabric:
"Kirk" required his costume dry cleaned for every new filming. So the velour shrunk every time the tunic was taken to the dry cleaner.
Kirk body changes, so the tunic beginning to look smaller and smaller. That's why the Green Wraparound used more often in S2 (expands).

Velour is certainly a more challenging fabric to work with than nylon. When the series originally aired, velour was very popular...some of my favorite shirts were made out of velour. The think the uniforms as a whole look great. I'm curious to know if future releases might include the alternate black utility belts that were used on the show, as they blend in more with the uniforms.
I hope QMX considers making accessory packs available that would include a full uniform, and maybe a phaser or two. You can never have enough expendable ensigns to go around!
