Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

for $1000+, this needs to be 100% accurate... atm it is about 80%. And I don't want to spend that just for the clothing... Needs work. Painting is nice...I was looking forward to this - but I am actually on the fence about purchasing

I wouldn't say 80% I mean I was really Excited for this release, but eh..

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Somehow I see a little Oompa out of the sculpt. Maybe the smile needs to be more exaggerated, or the eyes need to be more "lazy"...for this "relaxed" expression at least.

Is the haired sculpt going to use the same expression?

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I figured as much....but I want to put something together or at least be part of something that won't disappoint....and I think with someone likens Trevor or another top artist....we could get it...instead of just giving it to Rm....Not disrespecting the guy but all those trick angles and all didn't show off the sculpt properly...and now we have a case of the pulp fiction where it prolly will not be fixed...given the considerable price hike....I have to kinda step back and really assess what da hell I'm really buying or not buying....and if my money can go toward something that will satisfy my collector in me...then I would rather go with that...

I'm sure I'm probably preaching to the choir for some of you, but I've only recently (past 2-3 years) started a family and bought a house, and what you can buy with $1000 has surprised me. For example, we just picked up one of those fancy *** front load washers with like 16 wash cycles and it was approximately the cost of a DX. I don't know, sometimes I don't think about it, but $1000 for a doll is pretty scary. Man, gotta stop thinking about this or I'll have mixed feelings every time I look at my figures.

Below the eyes - YES

Eyes and above - NO

I keep thinking Egghead from Batman.

I just see these figures as Art, and imo, and its just my opinion, Art should only be bought if you can afford it without sacrificing essential family and life needs haha

I think the paint job really drops the likeness. His pupils should be much smaller

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Making a comparison, the hair appears to be a little too high on the head and should come down a bit toward the forehead. Right now he has a five head.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I don't know what to say. I agree with you guys about paying all this money for something that lacks likeness. But then again, it is a Rainman piece with his signature style of sculpting which makes him unique, just like a Dali painting or a Michael Angelo sculpture.

What I think is happening (and someone already mentioned this) is that the hobby has evolved to where we are getting very accurate head sculpts from other artists and big companies for a lesser price (even with inflation). The only way I would feel comfortable (in my head) about paying all this money is to keep seeing this as a work of art and not a toy figure. But then again, I'm a toy figure collector, otherwise I would be buying paintings.

That really does help. At this point, the glasses are a must.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Just did a quick changes on the eye/pupil. I think it looks better this way.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

The trick is....are we getting glasses that fit exactly like that photoshop???...easy when PS is involved but difficult when it's an actual 3D item....
