Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

i don't understand or see why people will say this is a style from RM...when RM himself said this was going to be on par with his Bill...which was damn near a perfect sculpt...if someone states that they will deliver something that will be along those lines....i would think that he would be prepared or "focused" to bring that to the table...not to mention as i stated before the price increase...did my expectations shoot too far?...i don't think so...if RM can ask for a higher price why can't i atleast expect something better to the source material?....i get it...people get defensive about RM being an artist but i guarantee he doesn't know any one of you from some bum out in the street and will gladly walk past you if the chance ever presented itself...and as i have constantly stated....he is more of a businessman then an artist....he let the people dictate what he should sale along time ago...thats no longer the artist talking...its the business man....ask yourself why he would do that....do you think its because he wants to give his representation of that character or because he wants to maximize his potential earnings??...C'MON people...you get caught up in the artistic side of things when its only part of the overall equation...

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

The sculpt is actually brilliant cause it covers the bloody numb end look and also works perfect with the Randolph's. I own many of Rainmans pieces. Sometimes they don't translate as we'll in photos as they do in person.

I've had a friend come over recently and was blown away by Pee Wee in person. And he said he was never fond of it at all until then. He left my place feeling that was the figure he was gravitated to the most.

I feel this figure will have superb presence when its fully shown and its in hand. Hell the Pulp boys in my display are perfection and to think of all the pissing and moaning from that release. Looking at them now I wouldn't have even believed it!

The problem is your missing Bill to compare them too :lol:peace
Mike dare I say your bad luck! Just kidding buddy.....but seriously no more announcing projects. Theres some serious Madden curse going on here. Pee Wee, Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver:(

Not gonna kick a man when he's down though, Just gonna wait on the fullhair sculpt because Im a fan of Rainman and I want to support him on this.

He has a style people! This is his style! If you can't accept it, then I suggest you refrain from getting involved. He is not a photo realistic sculptor like Trevor. This is his style, like it or lump it.

I like it :)

I hear you Aaron. I think one of the problems is consistency. Several releases are very photo realistic and others are very stylized. This is more along the lines of stylised Pee Wee. However, Doc Holiday is my most cherished figure I own and to me is spot on. Even you went back and forth "several times" on the PF releases and have that right if it didn't meet your expectations. RM is a master at what he does, but people don't have to like everything he does.

If you look over them threads, you will only ever see me moan about how light I felt it was. The lack of the briefcase for instance. My gripe was never with the sculpts or clothing. I actually praised them on many occasions I think you will find :duff

The sculpt is a lil bit off imo, but the rest until now is great

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I think everyone cares about likeliness, but there are also people who care about style and quality (and exclusiveness, yes I am not afraid to admit it unlike people who swear that exclusiveness means jack **** to their collection desire) enough to still be impressed by a RM piece despite the likeliness being not on the ball.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

As the price goes up people expect the product to be on the ball. I don't think the likeness is that bad in the most recent picture but for $1000+ the likeness better be dead on.

Why must it? Or else what?

Again, it is very simple. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Nobody is forcing anybody. You get to see everything before you put your money down.

I've never considered the "if you don't like it..." notion an argument ender. If I were an artist I'd want to hear why a cross section of my potential customers was shying away from giving me their business.

Oh and I'm not buying it. Does that make my opinion on the figure less meaningful? No.

Actually I think it does. Why would you want to have an opinion on something your not buying? Why would the artist want to listen to your opinion if you have no intention to buy?

Why don't you see the '' if you don't like it....'' as an argument ender? It is true isn't it?

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Teddy, you know you're my amigo, but I just have a hard time getting behind the "it's stylized" stuff. Personally, I have no stake in this release, but it isn't the first time I've seen the "stylized" line from someone, and, perhaps that's their interpretation, but I think it kind of strays along a blurred line, if you will.

My only question is: why does Rainman get a pass? Not just on this particular release, but, like it or not, we're in a very, very meticulous and nitpicky hobby, and, when I see other threads where someone is pointing out how X or Y doesn't look right, and it needs to be fixed, I can't figure out why RM isn't treated the same way. For the sake of argument, let's say that the new IMINIME Cowboy had Michael Jackson's nose. Everything else was Eastwood, and, with the outfit, captured the essence of the character. Would Trevor get a pass if he lopped off Eastwood's nose and said it was just his style?

Again, I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, and, when I referred to the nose thing, I assure you I wasn't drawing comparisons to this work, but I'm just genuinely curious. It's very clear by looking at this stuff that Rainman has a lot of talent, and it's even more clear that said talent has earned him a very loyal following, but, to be completely honest, his "style" tends to hold some of his work back, IMO. I just think that, if you're making stuff as realistic looking as RM's, you're straying further and further away from being able to use the "artistic expression" stuff, especially when folks are going to be paying the prices that he charges.

I agree with this 100%. The artist doesn't owe anybody anything as harsh as that may seem. What Rainman is offering is a figure based on the Travic Bickle character and it is up to him to decide how to create the figure and decide when he feels he has finished it.

It's all cool mate :peace

I will be honest and say I don't get your argument however :dunno

Talking about cutting off noses and calling that a style is a little far fetched isn't it?
