Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I really like it also. The sculpt could use some refinements and the if the patch is inaccurate that should really be fixed , it shouldn't be that difficult surely.

In terms of the amount we pay for these things I'll admit I have to think really hard about it sometimes. Considering I don't buy hot toys at all now and I appreciate Rainman figures much more I just think I'd rather have this than 3 or 4 hot toys figures.

I really like it too. I actually like Rainman's style on the sculpt. Not everything is perfect but I'd say it's darn close. Just a couple of things that'll hopefully be improved a bit and it will be top notch!

The eyes are a problem but it is still great I think.

Everything else I said was all for convo, debate and POV sake.

Speaking on this particular release, I'm on the fence. I agree with these and all other eye comments. If the eyes can be tweaked for the better then that would raise my interest back to the top. I'm still waiting to see the haired sculpt, outfit, accessories, etc. and then I can access everything better; but just going on the sculpt... IDK. Not only is the paint for the eyes incredibly stylized but even the unpainted sculpt doesn't scream Di Niro to me :(

Well judging from the convo we should be just fine Greeny my friend! :duff

Exactly!

But we all know it's BS and all these ***** cry babies will be clambering after it when he opens it up for sale.

Some people just love to moan!!!!

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

As far as I am concerned it is simple. If I am willing to drop $1000 plus on this and say for instance your not. I would hope RM or any artist would respect my opinion more. That is just basic common sense isn't it?

By that, I mean if I am paying and I don't want a change to the sculpt, then I hope he would listen to me over yourself who isn't paying. Surely you can understand that?

What about the several on the fence? Should they have a say? It is a huge risk for RM to not listen to feedback after putting himself out there for feedback the way he has. Buying, not buying or undecided should all be valid feedback if he is a businessman. If it's just for artistic expression anyone's opinion shouldn't matter.

You know Teddy you sound like such a hypocrite. How can you say you are a supporter of his work when you basically sell off all his figures shortly afterword. Not just one or two which is understandable, but you have CONSISTENTLY sold off Rainman figures and accessories on a very frequent basis, in fact I'm inclined to say that you have started the trend. What type of support is that I ask?

I understand you perfectly. i just dont agree.
I wanted to pick up a sculpt and possible clothing set for example, and now im hesitating. Im a client, but spending significantly less than you. does that ,make my opinion count less? Im sure the last thing RM wants is for collectors to get the impression that only a small paying elite have his ear.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

so even if you are a past customer (and i am) I am not allowed to give an opinion because in your mind (no matter what) you have already made up your mind and will be buying whatever he puts out?? Does that gives you more of a say so with RM then the other "willing to pay" customers WANTING to give this guy the money for a character that is iconic? that doesn't make sense...because up until a few days ago...i was going to give this guy 1500 just like you....the only exception is that i am not a robot and will not buy anything he puts out just to say "hey...its a RM piece here"....i think his brand has taken on another level because of collectors like you...his work has always been good, there is no denying that but his likenesses are often hit or miss...i'm a collector...just like you...the only difference in our habits is that i like to see 95% or better....which he has done....i only questioned why is it that he can't do it consistently...and if he has the ability to do it...why doesn't he do it....it would make his bottom line better... but i guess thats wrong to actually give your opinion in a RM thread...thats pretty brash and almost cocky of you to say TD

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Which figures and/or parts Teddy decides to sell is purely his choice and does not affect whether he is a fan of rainman or not.

He still has all of his best works.

He was one of the main 'helpers' during the heyday of rainmans work and helped get some of the best pieces made.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

At the end of the day, I agree with Seb on this one, perhaps we should leave the "artistic" out of it, but, just like any product, I feel that people who are going to be shelling out that kind of cash are entitled to an opinion, at least. What Rainman does with said opinions are his own perogative. Then, too, as others have said, just like any product, if you don't like it and don't feel that it's worth spending your money on, speak with your wallets.

I don't know how this works income wise for Rainman, but, if his work gets to the point where a majority of his customer base feels it's unsatisfactory, he might be more inclined to listen to them if he knows that they aren't going to shell out the kind of money he's asking for something that they aren't happy with.
I do think opinions are all fine, but it would be nice if people reserved their opinions for the work and not the process or artist. You probably haven't seen this, but this is a running theme with Rainman recently, where some have inferred that he is "rushing" projects to make a quick buck, at the expense of artistic quality. That happened with Ra's al Ghul even. To me, that's really low, and insulting to the guy.

But yeah, he does have commercial pressures to contend with, and I think they do affect him on some level. In fact, though I've been defending Rainman here all day the fact of the matter is--I'm not a huge fan of this sculpt, and might not buy even a head/outfit set as-is, because I also want to see something more accurate to Deniro. But we've seen so little of the haired sculpt (none of that outfit) that it's still a big unknown to me at the moment. I would not likely pay $1,200+ for a DX of this guy with sculpts as-is, though I would have considered it if the likeness got nailed.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

For the most part I see 2 collectors here (I'm not talking about the sculpt only peeps :peace). The ones that will buy basically everything and anything that RM releases because they are die-hard RM fans (mixman, Mags & a small select few others) & the likeness fanatic crowd that were drawn in by the best of his sculpts. All groups know what to expect in the outfit and accessory dept. but the likeness-heads sit here from release to release hoping that the next one will be up there with the rest of his best.

Dude, please don't try and group me. I support all artists. Just cause somethings a Rainman piece doesn't mean I will buy it. I have skipped on many of his releases.

I buy figures of characters I love and have an attachment to first and foremost. If Rainman happens to make my drug of choice then I will give him my money. But I do not in any way buy something just cause its a Rainman piece.

As for this release, depsite the negative criticism (which is fine, all are entitled to their opinion) I am really digging it. And from experience I trust Rainman to come through with the goods.

Like I said in an earlier post. Say what you want about the Pulp boys but they are straight fire in my eyes and have such a strong presence on the shelf. I wouldn't believe we went through all that drama these last few months.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Just curious... Magus... which Rainman figures did you skip? Whenever I look at your collection, I never feel it's missing anything! Except for Doc I think. :)

I too think there can be improvements to be made... but I'm more concerned about the full hair sculpt than the mohawk one as I'd definitely keep the shades on that sculpt instead. I think the paint isn't finalized so try not to fret! I have yet to be let down by a Rainman piece in person so I will keep my faith in the man. Keep in mind that many of his photos are taken at weird angles with nontraditional lighting!
