Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

For the conspiracy theorist lovers out there.

I think this is the part where people talk each other out of buying Rainman's figures so they can improve their chances of nabbing one for themselves

:rotfl

Just curious... Magus... which Rainman figures did you skip? Whenever I look at your collection, I never feel it's missing anything! Except for Doc I think. :)

Ok, here we go.

GBU Trio
Audrey Hepburn
Stuart Little
Dexter
Stansfield
Bill the Butcher
Doc Holiday

Does that prove my point? :lol

Well this wasn't the pic I meant to post. Haha

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Magnus. . .you don't have Bill the Butcher? :horror

I do wonder about this release though, considering that Rainman was talked into doing an all out deluxe figure costing (apparently) about 50% more than a typical DX release. This was based on the understanding that a number of folks were "all in" for it, despite no sculpt being shown.

If the likeness isn't sufficiently there, but the cost is much higher than usual. . .

You finally got a DX Wonka? Congrats!

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Dude, please don't try and group me. I support all artists. Just cause somethings a Rainman piece doesn't mean I will buy it. I have skipped on many of his releases.

I buy figures of characters I love and have an attachment to first and foremost. If Rainman happens to make my drug of choice then I will give him my money. But I do not in any way buy something just cause its a Rainman piece.

As for this release, depsite the negative criticism (which is fine, all are entitled to their opinion) I am really digging it. And from experience I trust Rainman to come through with the goods.

Like I said in an earlier post. Say what you want about the Pulp boys but they are straight fire in my eyes and have such a strong presence on the shelf. I wouldn't believe we went through all that drama these last few months.

You're taking me wrong bro; I actually wasn't going to throw you in there but I thought you might get offended if I DIDN'T :lol

And please don't misunderstand, I'm not saying anything negative about that group that will buy most to anything that he releases; I'm just noting their existence. There's nothing wrong if people are die hard fans and would buy anything he does because the love his work. You have to buy what you like in this hobby. If you can swing it, it tickles your fancy and meets your collecting standards... buy it! I'm just suggesting that the other group that's more driven by likeness has a totally different mentality.

Let's not hope that goes belly up for him. Some people here will be responsible. I name no names :lol

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

You know Teddy you sound like such a hypocrite. How can you say you are a supporter of his work when you basically sell off all his figures shortly afterword. Not just one or two which is understandable, but you have CONSISTENTLY sold off Rainman figures and accessories on a very frequent basis, in fact I'm inclined to say that you have started the trend. What type of support is that I ask?

I take it you've never sold a RM piece then :wink1::chase

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I do think opinions are all fine, but it would be nice if people reserved their opinions for the work and not the process or artist. You probably haven't seen this, but this is a running theme with Rainman recently, where some have inferred that he is "rushing" projects to make a quick buck, at the expense of artistic quality. That happened with Ra's al Ghul even. To me, that's really low, and insulting to the guy.

But yeah, he does have commercial pressures to contend with, and I think they do affect him on some level. In fact, though I've been defending Rainman here all day the fact of the matter is--I'm not a huge fan of this sculpt, and might not buy even a head/outfit set as-is, because I also want to see something more accurate to Deniro. But we've seen so little of the haired sculpt (none of that outfit) that it's still a big unknown to me at the moment. I would not likely pay $1,200+ for a DX of this guy with sculpts as-is, though I would have considered it if the likeness got nailed.

That's a fair assessment, and no, I wasn't aware of that, but thank you for bringing it to my attention. While I don't necessarily think it's right that people are inferring that, I think it comes with the territory, if you will. When you're charging somebody anywhere from $800 to $1200 a pop for these things, and, to said person, they have been unsatisfactory the past couple of times, I think it's naturally going to raise questions. With that being said, even if it does, I don't think it's right to air your suspicions in public, where a person's reputation is at stake.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Teddy, don't you still owe me $1500 dollars? Theres only a DX buddy! :lol Because I'll gladly pay for my figure with the money you owe me from that bet you ****.

Mr "Man of his Word" :rotfl :rotfl
