Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I respectfully disagree. I believe you can tell a lot from a person's eyelids. Big difference from person to person. Like I've stated countless times... people's brains recognize facial features differently. Different facial features stand out more to others... some people may not even notice differences until several are present. But then again... it could be because I've spent so much time out of my life watching people get their faces altered permanently in real life. :)

My argument is Jules. He changed the frown lines. In my opinion it did nothing to change the likeness. It remained the same in my opinion, it just changed the appearance of Jules slightly.

Edit: I believe he tweaked the eyes on Jules as well. If people are honest, they will say they can't tell the difference at all.

I'm being 100% honest, but those were huge changes in my eyes. Made him look the appropriate age instead of being 40+!

You guys wanted numb. This is definitely a great representation of a numb Bickle :clap

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

The only rework that comes to mind with Rainman that I've seen drastically change the sculpt was Pee-Wee, and that's because he changed the mouth entirely. Mods like Jules and Lector--very minor mods--seem to be his typical MO. I don't think I've ever seen him completely scrap a sculpt and start fresh like Iminime sometimes does.

Well the telling thing for me was people commenting on the tweaked sculpt saying how fantastic it was and how different it looked, only to realise it was still the original.

If you don't see a difference while others either see or think they do, then I don't know why you'd be so against alterations so minor to you. Worst case scenario, it just delays receiving the figure by what... 1 week out of a 3+ month wait?

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

When somebody accuses me of saying something that I didn't, and accuses me of being inconsistent, which I am not, I have a right to bring that up.

He is one of the cronies, I expected nothing less.

You aren't referring to me, are you? I've see a fair share of stuff directed at you, Teddy, and it isn't right, but, to be honest, what's it accomplish when people start calling each other "twats?" I just think there's a road less travelled that ought to be utilized a bit more; the high road. This stuff seems to get really heated, and it's really accomplishing nothing.

No I wasn't, I was referring to PCK.

Me and Turbo have a colourful history. I can't see that changing anytime soon.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Cool bro. You know were good money my dude. Just had to clear that!:1-1:

As for that other mentality............its liable to kill this game one day. Beause were do you draw the line? Nothing is perfect! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

My nizzle :hi5: :duff

I disagree on the rest though broski. The evolution of the hobby is a good thing; no way is it something that will destroy it one day. Other customizers such as Iminime, Beto and Sean & Kato are keeping up with the progression. Proper bodies chosen for the specific characters, mods done to those bodies to increase accuracy, thorough research on all aspects, and so on.

It has all to do with the difference between being an avid fan of the character... and not. All part of the same convo that's been going on but I don't want to dig in that can of worms...

I do think opinions are all fine, but it would be nice if people reserved their opinions for the work and not the process or artist. You probably haven't seen this, but this is a running theme with Rainman recently, where some have inferred that he is "rushing" projects to make a quick buck, at the expense of artistic quality. That happened with Ra's al Ghul even. To me, that's really low, and insulting to the guy.

But yeah, he does have commercial pressures to contend with, and I think they do affect him on some level. In fact, though I've been defending Rainman here all day the fact of the matter is--I'm not a huge fan of this sculpt, and might not buy even a head/outfit set as-is, because I also want to see something more accurate to Deniro. But we've seen so little of the haired sculpt (none of that outfit) that it's still a big unknown to me at the moment. I would not likely pay $1,200+ for a DX of this guy with sculpts as-is, though I would have considered it if the likeness got nailed.

In all fairness I think that there was enough evidence of a rush for the large majority to draw the same conclusions. I have defended RM too in many other occasions but where do we draw the line on that? Sometimes you have to call it has you see it. He deserves all the respect in the world but on a few choice occasions it was necessary to stop making excuses for him and respect ourselves.

Hey guys: Travis Bickle will sell out.

I'm clairvoyant. ;)

Let's see how good you are... within minutes, days, weeks or months? :wink1:

Honestly, after all has been said and done, if it gets tweaked it gets tweaked. It is just the way some come out and bash the mans integrity and work. The demanding nature of some also really aggravates me.

This will be the Travis Bickle I have been waiting for for a very long time. Tweaks are not going to change that for me. Like I say, it was really all about some peoples attitude and approach that aggravated me.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Honestly I know you guys like "the style" but is improving the likeness not a good thing? I mean really are you seriously going to be disappointed if he improved the likeness?

Thank you, that is what I said earlier. If you like it as is, great. But, someone shouldn't be against it being possibly better. JMO:dunno

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I just wanted to stop in and put my two cents out there, I realize that dropping into a thread like this is only likely to lead to nothing good, the crowd here seems very hostel but here goes.

I'm not a rainman fan, I'm not even into 95 percent of the custom figures out there and not cause there not cool, cause they are, some are amazing. Theres a few reasons why I don't bother with the idea of buying into the whole highend custom figures realm.

Number one is there ridiculously priced, yes there limited, yes there nice, and yes the artist deserves to be paid for his or her time and effort and talent. You might think be thinking oh, this guy just can't afford them so that's why his not into them, you would be wrong.

The reason I believe there over priced is because they are, no 1/6 figure is truly worth 1500 to 5000 dollars. Sure a some people might pay that so you might say well if it sold for that its worth that, I call bull **** on that. I really don't mean to insult this artists work but I'm afraid I there's no other way to get my point across, that is not Robert D, close but no cigar.

This custom is an unlicensed product that barely resembles the actor and costs 1500 bucks, where as I could get a licensed figure that's completely accurate to the actor and costs 200-300 bucks. Yeah I'm talking about hot toys for the most part.

Look at Trevor Groves stuff, he used to sell his sculpts here for like 35-50 bucks, now whats happened.

I'll tell you what I think happened, the custom figure flippers, the guys who always buy every top end custom figure at release, call it a grail, praise it like it was sent from above then wait til its sold out and bam, you have all seen this in the sale section

"I hate to have to do this cause its my grail, but here I have x custom figure here for sale $5000.00 dollars"

Yet they sell it anyway, nearly every time. They sell there grail figure, time and time again. They also got a built in cheer leader squad to, they pop into the sale thread with " I would totally buy that right now if I could"

There's a lot of great customs here, rainman's stuff included, and they deserve to be compensated for the efforts, but I think this high end custom realm of figures prices have ballooned to far, and that bubble is going to pop eventually, It happens on a figure by figure basis.

Look at all the custom crow figures that were suddenly for sale after hot toys announced theres, they got dropped like a bad habit.

So much about your post I don't agree with, but that really made me laugh in bold.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I couldn't of said it any better myself Skull.

You hit the nail on the head.

I do lurk these threads , but choose not to join the tittybaby whinefest that goes on in each and everyone.

This doesn't look anything like Robert Denerio at all , looks more like Fellow Freak King Darkness to be honest

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I don't expect any support in this thread, what I talked about hurts the over inflated value of these figures. The fact that I could get for example the hot toys 89 batmobile, the Robocop with chair, and the hulk for the same price as this unlicensed attempt at Robert D. the choice is clear for me, but others are free to spend as they feel:wink1:
