You're alright. That's what I think of too, but this expression would work just as well. :hi5:

I am pretty sure that is what I will be doing with mine. I think you assume cheesey grin only works with this pose. He also partially claps with a serious/numb face. You could have him clapping potentially.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Like everyone I wish custom pieces where cheaper but this is where we are in the hobby atm if people (myself included) are willing to pay this is what custom artists will charge for there time.

Honestly I've never understood the HT vs Custom argument for me it's always quality over quantity and how often to HT really 100% nail it? They do from time to time of course but they also miss on a lot of stuff too. How many HT figs have the quality of Rainman's Bill, Anton, Doc or Dude? Or Beto's Beetlejuice or Jason? For every awesome figure HT release there's one that's pretty poor, Indiana Jones or Aldo Raine anyone (purely talking about sculpts here).

There's also the fact HT are so narrow minded atm I got sick of Iron Man 2 years ago lol and have no desire to own any of the Avengers figures. There just not doing anything really all that exciting atm for me anyway. I prefer the hand crafted aspect of 1/6th as opposed to the churned out in a factory at numbers exceeding 10,000 units per figure. I love the fact that a custom artist whether it be Rainman, Beto, Serang, VM, Robbiethepainter or any of the other super talented people we have here on the board have actually made the figure I just purchased virtually from start to finish. You can see the effort and love that has gone into every single piece. It's truly special opening a Rainman set could anyone argue you get anywhere near that feeling opening a mass produced HT figure?

I just wanted to stop in and put my two cents out there, I realize that dropping into a thread like this is only likely to lead to nothing good, the crowd here seems very hostel but here goes.

I'm not a rainman fan, I'm not even into 95 percent of the custom figures out there and not cause there not cool, cause they are, some are amazing. Theres a few reasons why I don't bother with the idea of buying into the whole highend custom figures realm.

Number one is there ridiculously priced, yes there limited, yes there nice, and yes the artist deserves to be paid for his or her time and effort and talent. You might think be thinking oh, this guy just can't afford them so that's why his not into them, you would be wrong.

The reason I believe there over priced is because they are, no 1/6 figure is truly worth 1500 to 5000 dollars. Sure a some people might pay that so you might say well if it sold for that its worth that, I call bull **** on that. I really don't mean to insult this artists work but I'm afraid I there's no other way to get my point across, that is not Robert D, close but no cigar.

This custom is an unlicensed product that barely resembles the actor and costs 1500 bucks, where as I could get a licensed figure that's completely accurate to the actor and costs 200-300 bucks. Yeah I'm talking about hot toys for the most part.

Look at Trevor Groves stuff, he used to sell his sculpts here for like 35-50 bucks, now whats happened.

I'll tell you what I think happened, the custom figure flippers, the guys who always buy every top end custom figure at release, call it a grail, praise it like it was sent from above then wait til its sold out and bam, you have all seen this in the sale section

"I hate to have to do this cause its my grail, but here I have x custom figure here for sale $5000.00 dollars"

Yet they sell it anyway, nearly every time. They sell there grail figure, time and time again. They also got a built in cheer leader squad to, they pop into the sale thread with " I would totally buy that right now if I could"

There's a lot of great customs here, rainman's stuff included, and they deserve to be compensated for the efforts, but I think this high end custom realm of figures prices have ballooned to far, and that bubble is going to pop eventually, It happens on a figure by figure basis.

Look at all the custom crow figures that were suddenly for sale after hot toys announced theres, they got dropped like a bad habit.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I absolutley love this , that shot with the shades on is insane !. I'm happy with it the way it is and I can see quite a lot of deniro in the sculpt personally but if some people feel they aren't happy with the likeness then I hope rainman does take their comments into consideration. Imagine the hair on Anton wouldn't have been changed for the few of us it was bothering. I know this doesn't need changes as drastic as that but considering this is finally Travis BIckle from rainman i just hope everyone can be happy.

As for the hot toys vs customs debate they just can't be compared imo. The last thing i want to do is sound high and mighty but anyone who has received work from rainman will already know the difference. Let's see hot toys make a Travis Bickle with all the accessories necersarry , that looks this amazing and is limited to under 100 pieces. This is one artist , not a huge company.

Ok I'm in a rush to get to work so I will try to make this quick, you are so far off on the hot toys vs custom thing its not even funny. As far as nailing sculpts they do it so many more times than customs its not even funny, yeas theres a small bunch of customs that nailed it, you named a few and theres about 10 others I can think of, but compare that to the fact that hot toys has made over 200 mms figures and 14 dx's, and out of the last 150 mms figures they nailed it 95 percent of the time.

There figures are of better quality nearly 99 percent of the time compared to customs, most customs not all but most are using knock off truetypes, hot toys has stuff is professionally manufactured, licensed and beautifully packaged and is of just about the highest quality out there. I've seen tons of customs with stick tac to hold on head sculpts, not rainmans but many others. Look at iminime's bodys, most people how buy these figures trash the knock off bodys and replace them with hot toys true types.

I can go on and on but I gotta get going:wave

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Pretty sure Aaron was talking to me Walker lol. Was me who wrongly assumed cheesy grin was the only pose that worked with the crossed arms :)

Not even you bud, it was a generalising statement. I would say most people put cheesey grin and arms crossed pose together.

I was just ready to post a similar picture to Walker, but he beat me to it.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Will the haired sculpt have the same numb look? I'd rather it have a more serious expression.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I still think this pose could work. Always loved this pose Snake used for his custom Bickle. Look how far we have come as well people! This was considered the best at the time. It is still very good, but RM's just blows this out of the water :)

I am under the impression it's different. There is a clear frowning expression going on here.

If you take a look at the Mohawk sculpt. The frown definitely appears different. I think we might be getting two different sculpts/expression.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Im not in a rush and you in my opinion are so far off on the custom vs hot toys thing its not even funny ;).

Sure HT nail a lot of there sculpts but there a large company that produce there figures on a mass scale in factories in China. They have teams of sculptors and tailors that get proto's ready for mass production. The custom artists I am referring to are by and large one man operations and I appreciate what they do more than HT maybe you don't that's fine. I'm talking about the character and uniqueness each custom piece has as opposed to the supply belt of clones being dropped in to boxes by HT's. Don't get me wrong I love HT figs I own 70-80 of those 200+ MMS/DX releases but they do not mean as much to me as any of my custom work. Maybe that's because most of my favourite movie's/TV shows don't have Iron Man in them so the chances of HT ever making them is low ;).

I'm talking about that hand crafted touch that's put into each and everyone of them it's truly special opening one of Rainman's figures for the first time! With regards to quality perhaps your not best placed to comment since you don't buy/collect custom pieces. I on the other hand buy both and can hold them side by side and HT don't even come close to the likes of Rainman or Kato when it comes to tailoring! Hell even HT go to Kato for advice he's that damn good!

If you take a look at the Mohawk sculpt. The frown definitely appears different. I think we might be getting two different sculpts/expression.

That looks like the the first draft sculpt Rainman made before he altered the expression. It would be nice to see it used for the haired sculpt, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well I am only assuming he kept that for the haired version and changed the expression for the mohawk sculpt. I sincerely hope that is the case.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

So do I. Will Rainman be selling the haired and Mohawk sculpt separately?

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

This pictures only confirm that Rainman needs to make the nose bigger so the glasses fit well and Fix those eyelids so that we can display not HIDE the fine details of the sculpt

But looking at this CRM toys by Elvis1976 custom Im reminded that the one thing no one wanted to do with that sculpt was take the glasses off because of the likeness.

This is CRM all over again but now with a $1500 prictag.
