Sculpted static straight arms not bendable but that can move up "wingspan" style is suitable and static legs sculpted with her bare feet/ball of her foot pointed foward (tippy toe position) just as we see in the elevation scene would be very cool. Some ideas for Rainman to consider. I'd most certainly sacrifice articulation for those details.

I don't get the call for static arms and legs at all. The figure needs to retain posability to enable people to pull off other looks, rather than Regan just lying prostate in bed. Ok, the levitation scene is an iconic moment in the movie, but designing the whole body to homage that one moment seems pretty redundant because, really, who would risk trying to string a pricy piece up and leave it dangling in mid-air? If the figure is not going to be 'floating', then what's the point of it being stuck in a starfish position whilst lying flat on it's back in bed?

I was just going to get to that. The approach Rainman should have to the bed is not to treat it as an accessory but rather more like a Hottoys base. This way the elevation pose is possible.

I've had a lot of time to think about how to get the most use from the bed and easily you can get the 3 most iconic poses (1.Laying flat on Bed arms and hands tied 2.)Sitting up at Bedframe Headpost 3.) Mid-Levitation) if it's approached as a base rather than an accessory.

Levitation
Magicians use a trick plank to perform levitation tricks. That same idea can be applied to the design of the bed. For example, Hottoys uses a stem that plugs into the base for their stands in order to hold up the figure. The Reagan levitation is possible if a stem is used like a magicians plank in order to rest the figure on it. The plank will be hidden from view because it will slide right up inside Reagan's nightgown and since the nightgown drapes it will cover the plank and a bit of the base of the stem that's plugged into the bed(mattress) or the opposite side of the bed that's not in view when displayed. This will give off the floating illusion of the mid levition height, not super high but high enough to allow the fabric to drape a bit and give off the floating illusion.

Please guys, study the pictures. Take a close look at this one for example. Notice the board underneath Reagan's gown and then attaching (plugging) into the mattress. Examine the photo. This is the key and it is very possible to do this for a 1/6 figure.

MAGICIANS PLANK Technique (This is the optimal height)

This is the same technique they used in the film. The didn't use strings to hold up Reagan's body, they used a magicians plank.
Static, minimal articulation, finely detailed sculpted arms, slightly bent knees, legs with wounds and tippy-toed sculpted barefoot is the way to go. The only articulation of real importance is the "wingspan arms" for levitation pose or tied up pose and the torso/waist so that we can sit reagan up when we detach the plank stem from the bed.

Rainman can do this...EASILY, it just has to be explained and sketched out for him. The key words are MAGICIANS PLANK.

Stiff, my partner in crime.....get this info to the man. Also send him these Levitation videos. This is going to be next level my brother.

He is not thinking about details, nor any of this stuff regarding the bed etc., he's finishing up Jack... all this talk about what he's offering is a tad bit premature. Went from wanting to know whether this is really happening, to know edition details. Man still hasnt even finished all his Jacks. He said he'll give it thought when the time comes.

Geez relax man! It's better to start brainstorming these ideas out now and helping out our FRIEND Lee with info when he is ready to recieve it; than not to do anything at all. What the hell is wrong with sharing some ideas. We know he is still working on Jack.....but while he works on Jack, we can help work on Reagan.

Exactly. I'd hate to see this end up as a statue or have very limited articulation like Danny & The Twins.

Can someone who has experience with Obitsu bodies chime in with their thoughts? It looks like the 23 or 25cm would work for her. Just like Beto painted the forearms on his Freddy pt. 2 fig, the same could be done here. Or maybe, he could make a custom torso that accommodates the legs and arms of an Obitsu. That would be ideal if it could be done

She's only ever on the bed for the most important parts of the film. She's not standing up. We can get 3 poses at minimum from the bed plus the SUPER ICONIC LEVITATION. Articulation for a wingspan and torso area are really what we need. What else do you want, to put her in the doggy position?

And Beto didn't paint the forearms on Freddy 2, it was a special piece.

The bed is a must. This figure will not be worth posing standing up. Just amount of numbers I guess matters...anyone on the boards that can help make the bed?

These are a few more videos on creating a levitation device. It's not the traditional plank board levitation, but hopefully it will help Rainman get some ideas on how to design the bed. This instantly transitions the bed from a maybe accessory to a figure base necessity that actually serves a function (Levitation Hottoys style base stem)other than just serving an asthetic purpose.

The rainbow and the serpent ! It's all voodoo . I like all the brainstorming, I bet Lee has a trick up his sleeve. Couldn't he use the Twin bodies, that's what I was thinking or something similar to his pajama girl. Does it really matter if it's fully articulated or not? As long as the heads change out and there are accessories she doesn't need much movement .

Now that I think about it he doesn't even have to have the plank attached to the bed. He can make it a separate plastic peice that we can use when we want to do the levitation pose. Somthing with a plastic plank with a stem and bottom base you can slide underneath the other side of the bed.

Somthing like this (minus the fork lift obviously substituted for a plastic plank with base of course, lol) but pretend the forklift is a weighted bottom base. This WILL WORK!
Reagan Levitation Idea

Super easy to achieve this illusion and it will just add great creativity to what I predict is going to be an outstanding work of art from Rainman.

I'm going sketch somthing out. Maybe Robbie who has expertise in stage design can chime in because I'm sure he knows exactly what I'm talking about.

The Serpent and the Rainbow! I haven't seen that in years; barley even remember it. Gotta see if it's on Netflix

There are actually several times that she is on some other position than just lying there strapped in bed. Of course there is the crucifix scene (I'll spare you the details) and the the first time her head turns backwards, but that's in the early stages before the bed is padded and she's restrained (different nightgown, different make-up).

Arms that only articulate up and down laterally limit the figure greatly. It could be pulled off to work for both a pose flat on her back with arms tied and a levitation pose (if that's even possible), but even restrained she's much more animated than that throughout the movie. Many times while restrained she sits upright (like the Neca figure), and gets into full upright poses when she breaks the restraints (laughing with her hands by her mouth, clawing at the sky with the image of Pazuzu in the background, etc.).

Articulated arms, torso and head are need to have her displayed in any way other than just lying flat on her back.

Here's a short clip that shows what I mean in a nutshell. Just some examples of how she gets animated and gets into different positions many times thru the movie

Not really, but I wouldn't mind the option of doing so if I was that way inclined.

No one's calling for Spiderman style manoeuvrability, just that I'd rather her arms weren't locked out like a cartoon mummy chasing after Scooby Doo.

Seriously, why do the arms need to be static with only a straight up and down bit of bird flapping possible? A clear pole tpe stand, giving the illusion of levitation, would still work without the limbs being frozen in position, wouldn't it?

Then you could still have some different options at least. If her arms are just straight and tucked in tight to her body, or sticking out like she's playing aeroplanes then it is going to be needlessly statuesque.

Ok, maybe I'm biased because i'm hoping Pazazu is included and I want to try and pull off some version of this:

regan-during-the-exorcism.jpg

....but also I would like arm movement for other, subtler poses:

the-exorcist-10.jpgthe-exorcist-431.jpg

...and anyway, even when she is being levitated, her arms aren't stuck out straight and rigid:

Well ultimately the decision on how articulated she will be lies with Rainman. It never crossed my mind that those poses you posted would be really popular choices for most. Even with a fully articulated body I don't see how any of those extreme poses would look good but that's just a personal opinion.

All I know is that the Levitation pose is actually very possible along with at least 3 other poses if of course some level of articulation is provided in the torso and wingspan. The arms are covered, so articulated arms sounds very possible but again I see Rainman taking a similar approach to what he did with the twins and I'm just looking at solutions on how that could work as well. I'd prefer anything sculpted by Rainman any day over some cheap Obitsu bodies.

They might not be. I wouldn't know about that. I can only speak for myself and what I would like to see, but I wouldn't seek to claim that's deinitely the way it should be done.

I'm certainly not knocking your idea of the bed serving as a base/stand that could give the illusion of levitation. You've obviously put a fair bit of thought into it. I'm just mulling things over and offering my own take on things mate, that's all.

I'm normally more of a lurker, but find myself being drawn into conversations and wanting to contribute more of late. People should feel free to tell me to shut up at any stage, if they think i'm talking rubbish. I don't offend easily.

Again, I don't see anything in that clip that couldn't be achieved with the minimal articulation of arm wingspan and torso movement so that Reagan can "sit up". We all know the head spin is already possible and would look especially good with a full neck sculpt with the "Help Me" chest piece underneath.

I'm thinking Levitation though. It has never been done and Rainman can make somthing that would either attach to the bed and act as a plank with a Hottoys styled stem and base as long as he follows that magicians plank theory.

No worries. I hope I didn't sound like I was knocking your ideas. Everyone's input counts and I definately have listened to every word you've had to say especially when defending Reagan as a character choice. I thought your argument for her being made summed it up the best to be quite honest, and really helped to seal it for all of us Exorcist fans. :duff

We're all on the same team and I'm personally just taken back by a lot of excitement about the possibilites. We're just a bunch of guys strategizing in the war room before we present out ideas to the General who will make his final decision :lol

Nah, don't worry, you didn't at all... and I'm not so sensitive as to think anything of the sort.

I just meant people should tell me to shut up because I feel like I've been banging on a bit too much in this thread is all. When you begin to bore even yourself then you know it might be time to take a little break!

You brought up some very sharp points with regard to Reagan. Convinced me twice and I was born convinced about this character. By all means please keep chiming in because anyone who has the vision to see the greatness that is 1/6 Excorcist Reagan is obviously a gentleman and a scholar. :duff
