Oh 80s, how I miss you so.

To me, the 80s action genre is no better summed up than by the ridiculous plot and excessive testosterone of Over the Top.

Before the dark times...

Then came the Moonlighting bald comedian playing an every day regular size cop who single handily destroyed the Arnold and Stallone genre with one movie and went on to become one of the greatest action movies ever made to this day.

i would argue that even Willis, while not of Arnold or Sly's physique, still brought that sort of manly man quality to his franchise, but it definitely was a catalyst for change. It was around the same time Lethal Weapon movies took off and guys like Mel and Danny Glover became action stars. As Stallone said back with the first Expendables, Batman '89 was really a game changer, little old Michael Keaton was an action badass with fake muscles, it paved way to have heroes who didn't rely on their physicality. That's why I like Statham, when it started to seem like action stars were turning to guys like Keanu Reeves, Statham's movies were a nice call back to testosterone loaded action films.

Making me nostalgic for when Bruce Willis was still making good movies.

DiE HARD and a younger Willis was symbol of action brilliance

R.I.P. Alan Rickman

Meh, Die Hard gets too much credit and it wasn't even as big of a hit as some of the Arnold/Stallone films. I'd say Indy was the regular guy type hero before Wilis. I like Die Hard tho.

I take Keanu over Statham.

Stathman never impressed me.

Yeah, never been a fan. I don't dislike him, but I'm not a fan. In fact, it bothered me when in Expendables 3, Stallone tells Antonio Banderas to take a back seat because he was in Staham's spot as copilot. I get that he's the co-pilot, but Banderas is better than Staham, imo. He was good in the Desperado films and Assassins with Stallone.

Hnnnnng

I'll also take Keanu over Statham. I genuinely like the guy a lot.

I’ll say one thing about Statham films..he has nice Asian eye candy in female companions whether they are damsels or partners

But I think that’s the trick , the Directors know he is so bland in acting that the girls keep the audience engaged when there is a non action sequence :wink1:

Statham does action well and he's not unlikable, but he's not on the top tier of U.S. action heroes with Arnie, Sly, Willis, Ford, Gibson, Keanu Cruise, and Eastwood. The Rock and Diesel are probably top tier, but I'm not a fan.

I put Statham in the second tier with JCVD, Seagal, Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Snipes and Kurt Russell.

I'm not counting martial artists in which case, Statham would also not be in the top tier with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Li, and JCVD.

The holy trinity.

The Batman and Superman of 80's and 90's action.

I think he is even with The Thing in his resume.

C'mon Executive Decision yo

And that's ok because Arnold and Stallone eventually joined him in that tier.

Cobra is awesome. Not sure how anyone could hate on that film. Pure 80's cheese :lol

I even hated Cobra back in the 80's :lol

I remember I was so pumped for the film because of the trailers... Then I saw the movie. Even my young teenage mind could recognize the trash that was Cobra :lol

Sorry but Commando is way better than Cobra.

On the other hand my young teenage mind ate up Commando at the time.. Buy boy, talk about a film that just got worse with every repeat viewing.

I watch it now for Laughs and Bennett :lol
