Regarding The Thing (2011)...

I like the premise of this taking place before the events of the original, but the movie didn't deliver. Sad too. I really wanted to like this one.

Argo: 8/10

Really good flick, not one that I will keep wanting to rewatch like the Town, but Afleck should definitely stay in the directors chair.

Just got back from a screening of Poltergeist - 8/10

Awesome movie I haven't seen in a good couple of years. Great job at making us care about the family before things start to progressively build and become dangerous.

Which is the area I think so many newer movies fail in. They try to go gore > engagement of the characters. :monkey2

Yeah it's pretty bad when you start rooting for main characters to die. :lol

It was worse than Bayformers.

Don't be stupid. NOTHING is worse than Bayformers. :wave

What makes The Shining and The Thing such excellent movies. They take their time to show us these people and how real they feel with the way they interact and come to bond, as well as playing up the isolation and paranoia of who you can or can't trust.

It's a cop out today to say well, we root for Jason or Freddy. In the original Halloween or original NOES, I don't root for them because there is enough character development to make me care about the victims instead. The sequels then push aside any further development and depend on our bloodlust and infatuation with the slasher. Pretty much exactly what im seeing with the new Evil Dead trailer. Depending on the idea we all know and tons of torture porn. Does zippo for me.

Re: Rate The Last Movie You Watched.

Unfortunately, movie goers nowadays have short attention spans and unless they're seeing a giant robot transforming in the first 5 or 10 minutes of the movie they're bored. That's why there's so much focus on action/speeding up the story as opposed to previous films that would usually spend the first hour or so of the movie simply setting up the story/characters.

There's your answer, Deckard. Couldn't have said it better myself. Still, Hollywood once in a while delivers something authentic.

Re: Rate The Last Movie You Watched.

Exactly. But that doesn't sell.

It's sad because the most premium form of entertainment is on TV. Not the theater.

It's insane.

And ELF is better then Alien Resurrection. Period. Fact.

Magic Mike...I'm scarred for life/10 ...Watched it with my female neighbour and we both thought it was a terrible movie.
