Gangs Of New York - 8.5/10

Daniel Day Lewis was Amazing.

Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor alive in my opinion, definitely the actor I enjoy watching the most.

The ending was perfect. Like she was an alien visiting earth for the first time. (at least thats what I envisioned) Also the fact that minutes before landing and almost dead she was in deep space. Awesome awesome movie man.

I felt very uncomfortable when she was sitting in the pod listening to the foreign voice at the end of the phone, waiting to die. Then I got really happy when Clooney returned, only to realise he was a figment of her imagination!

Cauron has made a short film showing what's happening on the other end of that conversation, who it is and all that. I'm not sure if it's online but i bet it will be on the blu-ray release.

I'd need a scale of 1 to 100 to properly reflect my bro-love for the Damon :)

I know you dig the Pro' Lar'ja :lol

The very first thing that took me out of the 'zone' with Elysium was the date. 2154 and we're to believe that humankind managed to bust out a monstrous orbiting city in space in 140 years time? And it just kept getting worse...
I think I gave Elysium a decent rating when I first watched it a month ago, but after giving it time to sink in I'd probably rate it 3-4/10.

I wanted to like it because I really enjoyed District 9, but I found the whole premise and characters to be so bland and forgettable. The last half of the film was especially bad IMO. Was a chore to get through.

This is kind of how I felt about the Total Recall remake, but even that had some redeeming qualities like the furturistic city, vehicle and robot designs.

There was just nothing worth watching in this movie.

I'm generally pretty good with finding something of value in a movie, but I think you're right... there was nothing - characters... cinematography... plot and narrative arcs.... set pieces... CGI... all ordinary at best.

Why are we using spoilers for this? :lol

Here's the short film. It's pretty cool...and only makes sense if you've seen Gravity.

You guys are harsh. While it wasn't perfect, I liked it a lot. Even if you didn't like the story, acting, ect., I don't see how anyone found it ordinary looking. A lot of the design work was by Syd Mead...one of the greatest futurist ever.

And no way did the Total Recall remake look better than this...at least not to me.

Blackbeard : Terror at Sea - 8/10

Probably my new favorite pirate movie, couldn't believe how well made yet simple it was. Better than potc 2, 3 and 4.

Did Elysium have these?

I didn't think so.

21 Jump Street - 7.5/10

Johnny Depp's appearance was perfect.

While I thought Elysium was a average flick that looked good. I do think the Total Recall remake had better fx and set design. That movie was ager as well, but looked fantastic.

Oh and Jessica Biel & Kate Beckinsale fighting each other > old Jodie Foster acting all mean, bro.

Syd Mead did the design work? He should haul the CGI cinematographers over the coals then, because one of my gripes with the sets was that they were too contained and didn't exploit their potential. They looked like.. sets. In contrast, his work on Blade Runner or Tron took the viewer right into a highly rich and textured world.

Anyhow, horses for courses - I won't stop watching Matt Damon because of it :)

Just speaking for myself, the gimmick that made Hitgirl unique and fun to watch was completely gone and felt generic. The rest of it felt the same as the first because it's just a typical comic book movie with foul language and blood.
