I lost respect for Pegg when he said that people criticising the new Star Trek films should ''**** off'' or something to that effect. As if his own criticisms of the Star Wars prequels weren't well known. One rule for Star Wars fans and a different one for Trek fans I guess.

And if he genuinely thinks the Abrams Trek movies are above criticism then I feel no particular optimism that him being a writer on Star Trek 3 will mean any better a film.

I think Pegg's pretty burnt out and jaded by 'geek culture' honestly. Guy has seen everything he loves go from niche hobby for social outcasts to hipster fashion statement/corporate money-printing machine in the space of a decade.

Yeah, that would be my guess. There are all these fake geeks around the place who buy pre faded geek t shirts in an attempt to be in fashion or something.

He just can't capture that highly sought-after 12% 18-24 female demographic - you know, the kind of consumer base that wouldn't normally see a Star Trek product... I mean movie.

The new ST flicks are completely forgettable. I only recall Kirk driving a Corvette off a cliff and Old Spock chatting it up with New Spock.

What's the story with Z for Zachariah? Did Chris Pine's character really leave or did Chiwetel Ejiofor's character kill him? Reading a synopsis of the book perhaps suggests the latter. Seems in the book his character was more overtly bad whereas in the movie, one scene excepted, he seemed entirely benevolent and civilised.

I would say that the Dr. Succumbed to jealousy and murdered Pine, or at least didn't prevent his death.

I read the book when I was 11 years old, and I have to say they did a pretty good job bringing it to the screen. The ending was quite different, but then the books ending didn't make the most sense.

As I recall, the girl left the valley with the Dr's safe suit.

But it has been 30+ years since I read it.

Edit - refreshed my memory with the wiki, there never was a third person, something I thought seemed kind of off but I just assumed it was my bad memory. So, guess the movie is not too accurate.

I somewhat understand when people within the pop-culture industry occasionally lose their ****. I can't imagine what they go through with the online criticism about pretty much anything and everything these days. People LOVE to pick stuff apart and endlessly rant about it now. Like a never-ending broken record they go on and on and on and on .......

Its pretty much a given if any of the classics came out today (Jaws, Star Wars, Star Trek (originals), BTTF, Indiana Jones, Aliens, etc.) they would be picked apart and trashed just like everything else. :monkey1

The Uninvited. 6.5/10.

I remember enjoying this horror/suspense movie more the first time I saw it. It doesn't seem to be holding up very well.

I don't necessarily agree with that. For one, I've tried to pick those films apart and in many cases can't - generally in those older films, the writing's too good.

Secondly, I've shown 'old' films like Alien to younger people raised at the teat of the Fast And Furious franchise, and it's blown their minds. I had to write a recommendations list for one guy after showing him Alien in HD.

I agree with Plastic Bateman on this one... older classic movies like these seem to still be holding up with the younger generations.

To speak to this, I have put on a few episodes of the original Transformers show for my kids and the other day one of them said "Daddy, I like this more than the new movies." Tears of joy!

Opposite of what I've experienced. Most people I have met either haven't seen a movie made before 1990 or think it's "boring".

I think it really depends on the time you're born into, and you might see old movies on TV as a kid. I'm sure a lot of knuckleheads now think Jaws sucks :yuck

They benefit from a positive legacy that sets up a predetermined opinion to an extent also. Their parents show them the movie as "One of my favorites when I was your age". Back when those classics came out, the majority of people went to the movies and just enjoyed the ride. If they didn't like it, it was no big deal they moved on. They didn't go to the top of the mountain and complain non-stop about it. Today so many enjoy picking anything apart and finding everything thats wrong or "should've been done like this". They'll tell you otherwise, but those types are obvious.

Don't get wrong, they make a lot of ****** movies today. But the number of wambulance viewers today is insane.
If those classics came out today without their legacy, so many people would label them as horrible :lol

The Martian 7/10

Enjoyed the Martian a lot all the way to the end good story.

Inherent Vice Joaquin Phoenix a bunch of cameo's of actors decent smoke filled 70's story this was pretty funny and well done. It's better then American Hustle film that dragged on. A little out there but its the 70's cali theme of hippie style give a 6.
