How does that make him overrated?

Short version? If we can agree that filmmaking is an art, it should be capable of engaging you both on an intellectual and emotional level. Kubrick fails again and again through his movies when it comes to the second part.

Which is fine: there are people out there capable of loving an emotionally dead film like Barry Lyndon...but in my opinion if your movie only works on an intellectual level you would be better writing an essay.

That is what makes 2001 so good when HAL experiences fear as an A.I., truly something special at that time.

True. What an extraordinary film it is, but not one I can watch often. I once met Keir Dullea, unfortunately it was before I'd ever seen 2001, I would have loved to ask him about Kubrick.

Did you ever see the online doc that theorizes the monolith as being the movie screen? I had never looked at it like that, but I think I'd need to watch it again to speak intelligently about it.

Ugh, try reading Congo, horrible book.

I haven't read that one yet. I only buy them if they're $0.50 at Goodwill and haven't come across that one.

I agree. Congo was horrible, both the book and the film.

I personally love the Congo film and am not ashamed to admit it. It is probably the most hated movie that I love nearly every aspect of. I must have been the perfect age when it was released.

I did forget I never finished "Lost World: Jurrasic Park." That book was utter garbage and went nowhere for 3/4 of the narrative. I also didn't finish Andromeda Strain. I found that one to have a fascinating concept but thought it was pretty boring in its prose compared to his later works.

Congo is pretty meh.

The only part I liked was with Bruce Campbell. :lol

He's pretty much wearing his Evil Dead outfit with a darker shirt.

I completely forgot Campbell was in that movie. Seriously. All I remember is that it was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen that was actually released in theaters. And the gorillas.

I'll never forget seeing Charlie's Angels in the theater because when Tim Curry got killed the girl next to me said, "aww, poor Tim Curry."

Jurassic World
I don't remember what I originally rated it, but I'll give a 6.5/10 for a second viewing. I think it's the cgi that ruins it for me.

Thanks man, I'll check it out! :duff

I was really skeptical about the game when it first came out- I mean, how do you make a good BTFF game anyway? Turns out they finally cracked the code! The first episode is free on PS3, there's also a remaster on PS4 and you can even get them on your Apple devices.

My PS3 isn't hooked up to the net.. if it's available on disc, I'll track it down at some point.
