The Abominable Dr. Phibes - 8/10

Vincent Price rocks! I forgot what a great looking movie this was. And this was the first time I saw it in HD, so it looked even better. I'll be watching Dr. Phibes Rises Again later.

It never occurred to me before, but is this where they got the idea for the Saw movies?

One of my very favorite movies and characters of all time.

Not as big a fan of Dr. Phibes Rises Again as it makes little sense in context with the first movie, but it's still a fun watch.

10/10

What an incredibly powerful film! One of the most amazing films i've seen in a while.

Re: Rate The Last Movie You Watched.

I told you it was good,im picking this up on Blu-Ray soon.

Yeah good call bro, both me and my wife got really into this one. I just wish Hollywood produced more films like this. I've watched some amazing films over the past 2 weeks:

Slumdog Millionaire
The Wrestler
Into the Wild

What do they all have in common? Low budget and complete focus to bringing "Art" back into film like it used to be.

Evil Dead II 5/10

This movie was almost as bad as the first. It wasn't quite as annoying as the first one but still had it's moments. If I hadn't done a little research before watching this I would have been way lost. The opening part of the movie completely contradicts the first film and I know why but if I didn't I'd have been like "what the hell?". Some people treat this as a sequel and others as a remake. If I completely disregard the opening 10 minutes I can call this a sequel. Acting was still pretty bad and some parts were just complete garbage. Like his girlfriend jumping out of her grave and dancing looking like a very ugly Barbie doll... Ick. And the scene with his hand? WTF?!?! Then there were parts where characters were completely drenched in fluids only to be mostly dry and not stained in the next shot. Oh the horror.

I couldn't tell if this movie is supposed to be scary or funny. Perhaps a little of both. Either way it doesn't mix well to me and makes a pretty bad movie. The only part that saved it from being a total waste was him "arming" himself with the chainsaw at the last 15 minutes.

Oh well. Next in the Netflix queue, Army of Darkness.

Wow... you just don't get the Evil Dead flicks do you? They are not intended as great cinema, but have a quality that makes them awesome.

Try not to think when watching them, just enjoy the ridiculousness/awesomeness of them. I own and love all 3 :rock

Nope I guess not. I tried to forget and just enjoy the crazy stuff that was happening. I just kept getting taken out of it when one weird scene ended and another began and I just kept saying WTF?

I own and LOVE all 3 as well. Like Peter Jackson's early work, they are just overflowing with a love for film and horror and effects. These movies ARE NOT about a story, necessarily. They are more about the characters and the effects and the absolute joy of making it - on NO budget (not low budget - well, until Army of Darkness, they got a budget for that one... and some pretty nice one-liners to boot). PJ's early movies are exactly the same way. Love 'em! :rock
