Did a Bond mini-marathon over the weekend;
Casino Royale - 10/10
My favourite Bond film. Enjoyable and timeless.
Quantum of Solace - 6/10
This is the first time I have watched it since watching at the cinema back in 2008. I enjoyed it a lot more than I remember, and it's story works better if watched soon after Casino Royale. However, it does pale in comparison.
I do remember there being quite an overly exaggerated negative reaction to this movie in 2008. Any movie was going to struggle after the brilliant Casino Royale, but Quantum of Solace is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people would try and lead you to believe. Some of the negative sensationalist reviews and internet feedback in 2008 was a joke.
Skyfall - 8/10
A return to form. A nice blend of action and Bond character moments. Really enjoy this movie!
Spectre - 8/10
I may be in a minority here, but I enjoy Spectre slightly more than Skyfall. I remember a little negative sensationalist reaction to this movie, although nowhere near as much as there was for Quantum of Solace. I think the reviews were fairly divided. A common critique of Craig's Bond films is that they are missing some of the traditional Bond elements (although Casino Royale has many Bond elements, certainly enough for what is supposed to be Bond on one of his first missions as a 00 Agent). So here we have a film that is embracing a mix of the strengths of Craig's Bond films with more traditional Bond elements, and yet is is criticised for this?
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Spectre, and it tied up the Craig series nicely.
Looking forward to what is next in store for the series!
