Ghost in the shell 1/10 - Im the first to admit I know nothing about the background of this but to me it was utter garbage. Rubbish characters and plot.

I'm vaguely familiar with the source material, but even the fans of that hated it too.

Frankly, I'm glad it bombed. The Japanese are the only ones to do serviceable Manga adaptions, and there's quite a few out there I hope NEVER are touched.

I’m not a huge GITS fan either, but i’ll have to admit the mixed reactions have piqued my interest.

If you think that's bad, the book is probably ten times worse. The film does a good job adapting it though and even mentions some book scenes in his confession over the phone at the end. There's entire chapters of him talking about Whitney Houston, Phil Collins and Huey Lewis.

So is that a recommendation or a warning....or both.

I am an avid reader, didn’t know it was a book.....

Is it worth the time? Or rewatch the movie?

Yeah it's based on a book.

I would say if you were a fan of the movie, read the book. There's one murder in particular in it that is pretty ******* heinous.

The structure of the film and the book aren't identical, and some things are switched around. There's also narrative passages in it that give more insight as to what is really going on in the story that the film leaves kinda vague.

I was disappointed. I like Edgar Wright movies and all the positive reviews this has gotten got my hopes up, I suppose. The lip synching and dancing was too cutesy and cringe-y for me. Overall it just didn't click for me.

That's a rather broad generalization. I'm a fan of the original Anime, it's sequel, and the TV shows and really enjoyed the 2017 adaptation.

Yes the ScarJo GITS wasn't that great but I didn't find it "bad" or offensive either. I'd say that overall the good outweighs the bad (barely.)

"The fans" came across as the majority of GITS fans to me. Yes, it wasn't liked by everyone and even some fans didn't like it.
