gave it a 6 earlier, but think its more like a 7:monkey1

Haha, gave it an 8 at first, but it's more like a 7 to me too. The beginning is sooooo slow. I understand the characters need to be brought in, but wow, I didn't start getting interested until
The witch king made his appearance. The Gollum scene was just like, ok, let's move on already and by the time the end started coming around, it was like when is this going to end

I know who the typical people are to give this movie great ratings, but I was completely underwhelmed considering all 3 Lotr movies were either 9 or 10s in my book. I will see the rest hoping for them to get better.

When I first saw Fellowship, I have to admit I wasn't overhelmed by it. It took me another viewing to appreciate it more. Same with this one.

I rated it a 7. Unnecessary/bad CG in scenes, such as Azog, and silliness like Radagast's bunny chase really stuck out like a sore thumb, both visually and story-wise.

Glad I didn't disappoint:lol.

I could see that, but I have to say I didn't feel too much for any of these dwarves. There's just too many to get invested in and the baddies were less interesting. The only one that was for me, we didn't get to see all that much. Well, actually, the 2 big time baddies, we didn't see much. I'm hopeful part 2 will be much better.

I rated it an 8/10, might give it more upon the 2nd and 3rd viewing that I will put in the next few weeks.

I was stunned watching the LOTR trillogy when they came out in the theatre, thought these were some of the best movies ever made. Seeing the Hobbit on Thursday night was like seeing an old friend after many years--made me smile.:1-1:

9 for me... Im really regret seeing 3d in imax... put 3d glasses For long duration really gives headache.. I might watch it again in 2d

only 1 guy voted it at less than 7...35 had 7 and above...that's good news in my book...It's just one of those films at least should be seen in theaters at least once by everyone who liked LOTR

Just based on this small sample size I'm pleased so many have given it 8 or above. I think long term more people will enjoy this once they get past their initial expectations this would be Lord of the Rings.

Plus PJ can still touch things up in the 2nd and 3rd films in regards to the critiques ...This film will grow....it had tons of hype too...to me it stands up to the hype

A fourth film in a franchise is traditionally the hardest film to get right, especially a good number of years after the first three. Compare The Hobbit:AUJ to TPM, KOTCS, Alien: Resurrection, Terminator: Salvation, The Goblet of Fire, POTC: OTS and so on.

And none of those films were following a trilogy as strong as LOTR IMO so the potential for a drop-off was even greater. My hats off to PJ and company for their astounding work and for this forum to recognize that.

Yeah, there will be things better in 2 and 3 over the first. These two films will lose a bit more of their comedy as they go on if they stay true to the book. The Hobbit picks up the darker tones of Lord of the Rings as they go on.
