It should just be about having fun though, right? What if someone just had a Retron 5 or whatever & an emulation thingy as their gaming set up. Who cares. :huh

I personally love the old gear, & plan to get more stuff when the budget allows. That said, a PS4 isn't entirely off the table now, because there are quite a few titles I'd like to check out. The upcoming console could be a better alternative for me down the track too, as opposed to the current model.

That sounds pretty interesting. What systems do you play on, and what games are you playing right now? I think the prices for the current PS4 should drop once the Neo is released.

I thought you'd appreciate the force fed analogy. Nevermind. :lol
no I appreciate the 'broaden horizons' or 'try everything/listen' mentality but either way

Vinti, I'd seriously be impressed if you play across seven systems. I read an article last year, which said that around 90% of console gamers play on their current systems and never touch their old hardware again. Personally, I game mainly on PC, and my PS4 gets occasional use for exclusives. I haven't booted my PS3 since last year, and I was still a virgin since my PS2 has seen any use, whatsoever.
What article? I play across all my systems mostly since I'm able to find a lot of games I never got the chance to play. Some get less or more love then the others from me though and I'm pretty sure at some point I'll drop a few

Fun? in gaming?

Everyone cares! Opinions mean not-ok nah, kidding. :lol I just believe in having both and new available at the same time.

I'll try to find it again, I think it was an article from TweakTown. Pretty much no one plays their old systems anymore. If I had enough space, I'd probably whip out my N64 and Sega Genesis again.

The one reason I'd say that's true to an extent is due to digital downloads of old games. You can play them, usually with fixed features or something, and with better visuals. If nothing else, you don't have to dig up your old system and can just play on a modern system, so it's less effort too. But on YouTube you can find a LOT of people still going retro, it's actually a huge thing to collect now for better or worse. Probably the reason Nintendo is releasing the NES Classic.

the problem is just the people who 'retro games are the best, modern gaming sucks!' :lol such wannabees, especially since most of the games/systems they're playing are older then them. can't stand those people.

At the moment, I've got a bunch of stuff going. Nintendo Game Boy/Color/Advance/Gamecube, PS1-2-3, plus a huge library of MAME roms that I occasionally play on my PC.

I'm in the middle of a few games now; 6 Golden Coins on the OG Game Boy, Rogue Leader on the Gamecube, In Cold Blood on the PS1, The X-Files: Resist Or Serve on PS2, & Ghostbusters & Tomb Raider Anniversary on PS3. I only ever break out one console at any given time though. I don't have a 'game room' like some folks that can swing that. I prefer keeping things out of the way & dust free anyway.

I do want to get a Wii-U as well, then I'll have my personal Nintendo library covered via hardware & vitrual console. I never grew up with Mario / DK / Zelda etc, I was a C=64 / SEGA kid. Just taking my time really, & looking for bargains when I can. :)

I meant the friendly dig / gag.. :lol Besides, what does one's preferences have to do with whether or not they're open to new things?

Yeah, I don't know about that. There's a HUGE global community out there that are vintage or retro gamers / enthusiasts. As mentioned, just doing a search on Youtube shows you straight away. That said, if something looks cool (to me) of course I'll give it a go - old or new.

Don't even know some of those games to be honest :lol weird. I have those two, but how small could your room be? I have all mine out in my general room. Also go play Zelda NOW.

Preferences matter because the gamers who aren't open spend their time playing CoD and other bad games :lecture

Also true on retro/vintage gamers. That's why the thing Solidus pointed out confuses me...unless it's based on digital retro games.

Dark Souls - 8.5/10. Having put this series off for a long time, I gave it a chance and boy was it...something. Great game overall, a lot to it with its vast, interesting world, decent combat and rpg mechanics and general flow of high difficulty - though some parts are far more ******** than truly hard. I plan on going to the other games very soon.

Well ok, fair enough.. I take your point there. :lol I have a large entertainment unit with everything organised & stored in /on / around it. Works a treat. :)

As far as a review contribution, I'll check in with Ghostbusters on PS3 for my next one.

Loving it so far, & thanks to Ryan Pliskin for recommending it to me! :hi5:

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 - 7.5/10

Nice game and more grounded into just horror elements than action, but something was lost in the shuffle. Barry was fine, but they were a little too tongue in cheek with all his cheese RE1 one liners.

Alex Wesker was poorly developed.

Did you play the regular or prepare to die edition? Did you use a guide or play blind? Curious because most first timers miss entire areas of the game because they can be hard to find. I completed DS1 prepare to die edition again a few days ago. I like it, but its probably my 3rd favorite. People seem to like DS1 the best, but i prefer Demons Souls and Ds 2 more

Just played 'Until Dawn' on PS4 - 7/10.

The game brings you through typical horror movie settings with jump scares, enough to stun if you are on headphones. :)
Also somewhat keeps the player on the edge by requiring to make quick decisions.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition - 10/10

SPOILERS BELOW

I've loved every soulsborne game dearly, but sadly I had never finished DS1. My first time playing, I beat the bell gargoyles, got distracted with school and then never got back to it. When I finally did a few months later, steam had deleted my save file when they removed the GFWL. I was furious and let it go for a year and a half. Fast forward to April of this year when I finally got Dark Souls III. Now at this point, I had only completed 2 soulsborne games: Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. I finished DSIII on a legit souls high I didn't want to come down from. I beat all the bosses solo except Nameless King and I was so pumped to keep it going. So I bought DSII: SotFS, and then destroyed it in a few weeks. It wasn't as good, and I knew that going in, but I still really enjoyed it for what it was. And the Majula "Harry potter" music always made me smile. So now, I've beaten every Souls game but DS I... I had to do it. I couldn't love the series without experiencing its pinnacle moment. So I fired it up on my PC and started.

Everything about the beginning flooded back, but I was a much more experienced souls player this time around. I don't think I died once until I reached the gargoyles. But even then, I almost beat them. I took 2 more tries and then rang the first bell. It felt so good to destroy them after the torment they gave me a few years ago. I marched on through the depths, blightown (one of my favorite areas amazing design), Sen's Fortress (also amazing), and then Anor Londo.... (Holy Shh moment in gaming), culminating in the epic fight with O&S. My god the first half of the game is GOAT. And once, they were defeated, I was a bit lost of what to do. The game begins to wind down and you have to find the next destination. At this point, the game reache site low point, but this is also the point when the DLC starts to unlock, and we all know what that means... Knight Artorias!

Damn this fight was up there with O&S and was a straight beast. He was amazing to duel with and it felt amazing to bring him down. The rest of the DLC was good and I got back to the main quest. I hated the tombs area and the Nito fight, but it wasn't too bad. I enjoyed returning to the undead asylum and seeing how far I've come. And the demon ruins is a cool area with some good bosses, but the izalith fight was straight trash. I couldn't believe one of the big bosses ended up that way. Thankfully, the Dukes Archives made up for it and I marched on to the kiln of the first flame. My first thought was damn this place has been through hell. It's exactly what I imagine a place would look like if a giant flame originated there. As I made my way through the black knights guarding the area, I found myself face to face with Gwyn. He was too hard, as I was severely overpowered and he went down fast. It was still a great fight and an amazing conclusion to one of my favorite games of all time in one of my favorite series of all time.

I loved everything about it, from the interconnected world, to the people you meet and the places you go. Everything about it bleeds quality and love from the creators, and makes me sad that we'll probably never have another game in the series like this. Miyazaki is truly one of the greatest minds in the industry. I found even more depth to this already amazing game in VaatiVidya's prepare to cry YouTube lore series. I can't believe how much I missed even after completing it. The stories of these characters give this game and it's world even more emotional weight. I implore everyone who loves games and hasn't played it yet, to give it a go and finish it. It is truly incredible.

It was the budget. By far. But that was the point. Overall I'm happy with my time with the game, though and agree with this.

Regular on PS3. I used a guide to simply find where to go, and only for bosses that I died way too many times on, which was only a handful.

Until Dawn:7/10- Heavy focus on storytelling and character development and they delivered on that no doubt. However the frame rate is at 30fps, and it drops down to 20fps most of the time and it kinda ruins the experience when it's that bad. This at 60fps would look awesome, because the game is pretty in terms of graphics too, just a shame that it suffers at fast paced cutscenes.

Firewatch: 8/10. Not something i would play again, but very atmospheric with great storytelling.

Guns, Gore and Cannoli:10/10. Probably the best sidescroller game ive played in recent years. It is so much fun that you want to give it another go right away.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin - 7.5/10. A few nice improvements to Dark Souls (I didn't play the original Dark Souls II) were welcome but a lot of steps were taken backward. Level designs don't makes sense, game was easier and when it wasn't, the difficulty was ********, boss fights lacked scale and intrigue, story was meh...looked beautiful, and I liked the new weapons. Gonna jump into Bloodborne and Dark Souls III sometime though. By far though I prefer the original much more

Metal Slug - 9/10

Got a new phone and got a controller with bracket and tons of emulators, this is better than the stuff being released nowadays.

It was hard to finish without cheating by saving after each mission :lol but damn this was fun.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of vintage / retro era games & I've got Metal Slug, so time for me to give it another run I think.

As far as the R.E Revelations games, sounds like they might be ok then. I've checked out some gameplay for the first one, & although it's a departure from the early games, it has similar gameplay mechanics to RE4 from what I saw, so that's alright. I don't mind the 'ghost ship' angle either.

Metal Slug 2 - 7/10 It would be a better game than the first, and it's still fantastic, it's just a shame they never fixed the slowdown issues, although this sometimes worked to my advantage :lol

I'm getting better, didn't die more than 10 times this time around.

On to MSX.
