TheMadButcher, did you get a response from Denny about the upgrade to DX? I will be happy to send him an email to support the cause if need be,

let me know,

I will also be happy to send an email to Denny in support of this.

The edition is 60 and its not sold out. I mean after all it is labelled "custom-made" work! :lol

The original email I sent to Denny was just before everyone started giving their views and wasn't as clear as I think it could have been.
After axe and I went back and forth a few times I just left it at that.
(I'm a man of my word!)
I would say send the man an email and see what he says.
Please remind him that I am very much interested too! (All this fuss has been created by my little idea :wink1:)
If I were to miss out on this opportunity I might just "snap and then stalk from office to office with an Armalite AR-10 carbine gas-powered semi-automatic weapon, pumping round after round into colleagues and co-workers. This might be someone you've known for years. Someone very, very close to you."

Sorry, wrong film!

I've never really liked this DX thing from the begining, especially if the pieces are being made in extremely low quantities to begin with. The edition should be offered the same way across the board when numbers are this low. There are different variables at play here with Iminme especially with the outside retailer scenario.

DX and Fullset should only be used as an option to accomodate customers who may have a personal budget with their collecting habits, not to shut out customers who have money to spend. Thats why it doesn't work when the numbers are low. At 60 this would have been a guareenteed sellout at $550 a pop regardless.

I'll start by saying that I really wouldn't mind if say 10 people or so were able to upgrade their sets and get an overcoat and a DX sculpt. I want people to get what they want and it really doesn't make me feel like it's devaluing my set at all.

I do want everyone to get what they want but I see things from both sides of the issue; there's is a level of principles and unwritten rules that stuff like this goes completely against... and the big question that this all points to is where do you draw the line?; where does it all end? If he bends over here, will the Cowboy thread go haywire with everyone saying, "you did it for Bateman, why can't you do it for this?"

I think that there are people clamoring here that wouldn't feel the same way if they were on the other side of the fence.

Axe is right that this convo would NEVER take place in a Rainman thread (OR Serang, OR Velvet, OR… ). No one would ever say "I missed a DX" or a "missed out altogether, please make more". The rules are clear and everyone knows the deal. The difference is NOT RM's & Iminime's business model. Their model is the same despite what some may think. They both make and sell custom figures; just because the product is at two different tiers and respectively different price points doesn't mean they're doing different things.

The only difference is Denny is more vocal, interactive and accommodating to the customers.

We can't complain about the Cowboy DX. People wanted more and Denny increased the ES from 30 to 35 in the early stages. It's not about if it would sell or not. Denny can offer 20 more right now and they wouldn't last 10 minutes. I'm sure it has a lot more to do with balancing the work load and managing deadlines.

When the Gordon V2 outfit was proposed my eyes lit up! I couldn't wait to jump on that but once I saw all the full fig owners going bonkers I said F' it; I didn't even chime in with one peep because I understood.

Just sharing my thoughts . Please don’t misunderstand them for me wanting to deprive people. I do want everyone to get what they want and I hope Denny hooks you guys up, but I have a higher respect for maintaining the order of how this all works.

I once expressed disinterest in seeing Kato/Sunhoc offer up Morpheus Clothing/Head combos and got blasted.

This is very different than every situation you've tried to compare it or equate it to so far

Once again, this is just my 2 cents.

When Rainman is selling a figure, you see exactly what you get before you have to throw your money down and you are given advance warning of exactly when you will be able to order to the second.
That is why nobody would bring this up with him.
The finished photos are up on his website and then he will take orders.
In THIS instance with THIS release, AND ONLY THIS RELEASE, the photos we saw from the proto stage and the final version were completely different.
If Denny could have waited before taking orders, we could have all seen exactly what we were going to get.
As I have stated here already, based off the last photos we saw (proto photos), I stand by my decision of only going for the full set.
It was only after seeing everyone's photos here that we could see what improvements had been made.
That is the only reason I would like an upgrade to the DX.
I believe these circumstances call for it.

I agree with you Pop. I believe there has to be some line drawn where the basic unwritten rules are respected among the community of collectors. I don't have much experience with Denny or Iminime product, but I know that from past thread discussions he has been very accomodating to his customers and the communication channels have been crystal clear and very fair. If DX owners support the push for a few more collectors to upgrade there existing fullset orders to a DX without breaking the edition size of 60 then I see no harm or risk of it damaging the "special" existing DX offering.

With regard to your statement: "Axe is right that this convo would NEVER take place in a Rainman thread (OR Serang, OR Velvet, OR… ). I think Ray's intial comment on it was dead accurate when he said: "I'm not saying items should be forever made to order but as a community we need to get over ourselves. There are a few mass production links in iminime's model despite some elements being hand done. These are not Rainman figures. Mass production and profit for them as a business see's improved offerings and more offerings like Bateman."......"The point you brought up about unlimited orders and offerings to retailers is exactly my point, this was limited yes but essentially they have the same business model as Brother's production. It's limited, small release but controlled small to make a controlled profit and keep things low key under the radar. The tailor is not stitching every pant. The heads are hand painted yes, but there are mass production routes here."

In otherwards DX offerings from guys like Rainman or Beto arent usually extended because its usually said person who is doing the sculpting and the painting with maybe one other person doing all the tailoring so the workload is more stressful than the team effort that Denny may have (Not to take away from their workload as Im sure even the team deals with great stress and pressures to put out a remarkable product, which in fact they did).

From what I gather this was a made to order custom figure. Some people who bought a DX had the ability to request whether they wanted a Bloody or Clean screaming sculpt (that was an accomodation).

Also, I've examined the certificates and what I see is that it's numbered out of an Edition of 60 with either Deluxe or Full in print on the certificate. If we were allowed to upgrade, it wouldn't make the certificate void because individually specific certificates do not exist for Wall Street Killer since they are all numbered out of 60, not 1 of 25 Deluxe and 1 of 35 Fullset.

The sales of this were also very unorthodox for customs given that some of these were offered to outside retailers, so that makes the DX pool of availabilty even smaller and sets us up at a disadvantage from the begining, especially when the DX's Sold Out.

There is a demand for a small bump of DX's to be made available via an upgrade. It seems like there is overwhelmingly support for this from present DX owners, and it allows Denny and company to generate a few more dollars for this that could go towards funding future great products.

Once it's Sold Out, then it's gone. No argument can be be made about it, but what we're asking for is no harm no foul, just the opportunity to enjoy the complete offering within the bounds of the edition, instead of being denied it for reasons that dont justify anything other than "elitism".

Edit: I apologize for my run on and sentence fragments here, just trying to get out as many valid points as possible.

I bought the DX but haven't been following on this topic as closely as some of you guys, how did the prototype differ to warrant people who bought the normal set the ability to upgrade to a DX? The screaming headsculpt from the prototype looks exactly like the ones we received so I don't see your side of the argument, my apologies.

If Iminime allow the upgrades, like you all said, there is no stopped people from doing this with other releases. It is also unfair for people who took that leap of faith at the very beginning where as the people who bought normal sets after seeing the final product simply pay more to get a better deal.

I stand neutral on this and hope Denny can find a decent solution, it's more money for them but will have change how they usually do business.

I think from now on, Denny should put "prototype shown. Actual product may differ" on all their sales :lol

Also, on the topic of Elitism, if Rainman can open orders for some of his DX figures again, that would be great! Generate a few more dollars, more people are happy, no harm done. Make it a V2 if he has to haha

The prototype I believe madbutcher was talking about was the overcoat.

The better deal is actually the DX because if Denny now offers loose clothing like the Raincoat and suit, then how does that justify the fullset.

Also we're talking about a product thats still available. NOT opening the sale of a product that has long been Sold Out. There is a huge difference here. The Wall Street Killer is an edition of 60 that is not Sold out and was intially offerd as made to order.

This is the key statement. Nobody really knows what the count is for the regular or the DX. Denny could let ten more people upgrade to the DX and no one would even know.

Ah gotcha! I'm pretty sure the run of 60 is ambiguous, guess they have extras lying around. Either way, I hope people get what the want and enjoy this piece in all it's glory.

I'm glad you agree on certain things JP, and I know of all people you know what I'm talking about. And I completely get Butcher's argument about the fitting of the overcoat in the protos.

(I was so pumped when that photo bomb first dropped of all the proto shots I yelled for my girl to come check it out. We were both ah-ha'ing & mmm-hhmmm'ing as we were scrolling down.... then we hit a certain pic of the overcoat and she goes "WHOA!!! WTF is that a Bateman burrito?!?! :rotfl)

Like I said the ONLY thing that I have against situations like this is strictly about principle and has NOTHING to do with not wanting people to get what they want. I think that structure, rules and guidelines are important to follow to maintain the order and consistency of the way this all works. You start to bend it here… bend it there… bend it everywhere.
I agree that the Iminime can definitely improve the way they handle their picture presentations. They should show pics before PO, pics of revised finals, etc. It’s doing a disservice to both them and their customers. Those who jumped in bought somewhat blindly and we put trust in Denny that the final would be an improvement. I do agree that we shouldn’t have to buy that way, and I too would rather see pics of revised aspects then just pushing the send button on PayPal and keeping my fingers crossed.

I can easily justify this particular situation as fair grounds for an upgrade. It’s not like it sold out in minutes so it’s not a scarcity issue and everyone had plenty time to make their decision based on the pics. People didn’t buy the DX based on not liking certain things in the proto pics; if the pics were revised they may have chosen differently.

I totally get it and have no problem if Denny decides to hook you guys up

so many articles and debate about this.

Well....I am sure most of you know me.

here is my idea :
actually, we have some extra DX painted heads as we prepare any lost or damaged cases.

I have no problem for anything. my concern is always to make customers happy.

I had no plan to make more overcoat.
for dx head, I would hear from owners of this set more.

If DX owners get upset for this upgrade, it would be my concern.
If DX owners let some people to upgrade their set, I am ok.

it's really really up to customers'

Denny

Thanks for checking in Denny!

I agree with you 110%...if its cool with current DX owners then I would be more than happy to upgrade mine...in all honesty, I can't wait to get my set....DX or Full...this is a work if art!

Thanks for chiming in Denny.

I'm not bothered by it because you didn't show the final fit of the overcoat, and people didn't like the way it looked in the proto. Some people didn't buy a DX because they didn't know what the final product would look like.

I think what people are more concerned about is getting the overcoat than the sculpt, but my opinion is if they are upgrading, it's fair to everyone if it has to be a full upgrade; not just the coat.

As a DX owner if you wanted to offer a full upgrade (coat & sculpt), I'm cool with that :)

Thanks for being so customer friendly Denny! You kick Hot toys ***! I'd be okay for people to grab that DX head too, mine's in perfect condition so no need for a replacement :) Sucks to hear about the overcoat though, I guess you can't have everything.

As a DX owner i got no objection regarding that upgrade .. Go for it guys you deserve the extra head :D

That cool of you guys. Hey Denny I'm interested in upgrading mine. Can I pm you about it or is to soon? Thanks
